Wright completed full training today, so no injury concerns from Monday’s training
Update - 9th of December
- Reid - unknown injury at this point but looks to be long term.
- Caldwell - Semi modified training, coming back from shoulder surgery
- Cox - Rolled ankle week of 28th November, back walking around at training
- Stewart - Still struggling with foot issues, hasn’t started running yet
- Jones - Back from illness should be in full training next week
- Stringer - Not in peak fitness, battling a groin concern from 2022, won’t be in full training until Jan.
- McBride - Has not trained on the ovals this pre-season. Unknown reason
- Walla - Not in peak fitness, working way back from retirement
- Tex - Not in peak fitness, coming back from foot surgery in mid 2022. In modified training
Update - 15th of December
- Reid - Back “stress” injury looks to be long term.
- Caldwell - Semi modified training, now participating in most drills
- Cox - Rolled ankle week of 28th November, back running and agility training
- Stewart - Coming back from foot injury just started running
- Jones - Currently in modified training, expected to be in full training in the New Year
- Stringer - Working hard to get into peak shape, a lot of boxing and running won’t be in full training until start of Jan.
- McBride - Back running after missing most of pre-season training so far
- Tex - Coming back from foot surgery, just about back into full training
Depending on how you look at it, that’s six out of eight that are talls.
At the very least it kind of throws out full ground drills and match practice as you’ll have guys having to ‘play tall’ or at the opposite end for the purpose of the drill.
But hopefully when they come back after Xmas/New Year when things really ramp up that many of those guys will be back among the group - Jones, Cox, Stringer, McBride.
In December.

Tsatas, Cox, Reid all with serious injuries? Jones, Parish, Stringer and Stewart all missing most of preseason. Weiderman now in rehab too.
What did the external review uncover and recommend re: inj MGT?
6/8 on the current injury list are talls…
We recruit brittle players and mismanage our players. Durability has-been-an-issue since the Gumbleton debacle.
No accountability on fitness staff via the much discussed external review? I did not even mention above the recent recurrent soft tissue injuries to the likes of Langford, Snelling, Mcgrath, Caldwell…
The 2 biggest issues not remedied in the external review:
- Fitness and conditioning/injury management
- Adrian Dodoro
Reid Gumbleton 2.1
Farking sack dodoro and his recruiting of bean poles
Shambles
I like how club has said nothing fans had to find out via media.
Farking sack the lot of them
Well, for the people worried that Nino didn’t react strongly enough… all good now.
First round draft pick Elijah Tsatas has this week progressed to stage two of the Essendon AFL Induction Program.
Tsatas earlier this month completed the first phase, which is to show glimpses of natural talent over an eight-week training block in his first preseason.
The second phase is to pick up a back stress or foot injury, or a knee injury. Tsatas selected the knee injury.
The second phase is designed to teach the new recruit resilience and how to rehab successfully as an AFL footballer.
Harry Jones, Nik Cox and Zach Reid have continued with the induction program this year after mixed results in previous years.
What stage is Reid at in his induction? What did Gumby claim to in the end?
Update - 31st of January
- Reid - (Back) “stress” injury, long term (3 months, which he is 7 weeks into). Hasn’t started running
- Stewart - (Foot) Just doing modified training
- Cox - (Back) Just doing modified training
- Tsatas - (Knee) surgery 8 -10 weeks
- Weideman - (Quad) running laps at a strong pace
- Hind - (Quad) running laps at a strong pace
- Wright - (Calf) running laps at a strong pace
Hmmm. You’d think Weid, 2MP and Hind will be out of running laps and back into full training shortly, leaving just 4 guys who look like they’ll be missing any significant length of time. That’s not too bad. Would love a clean bill of health but with some luck we will have close to a full squad come Round 1.
Reid - maybe see you in 2024.
