First time it’s actually made sense to me.
Essendon are just using this mechanism to buy a high pick. Nothing to do with Gresham, the Saints etc.
They pay for pick 13. So it gets traded to them by the Saints in some fashion.
They hand a second round pick (28 for example) which is better than the compo pick Saints would have got originally as compo.
And because they help us, Saints get Shiel with potentially portions of his salary paid.

Of we could bundle our made up pick with pick 8 to get to pick 4 that would be genius.

so we say were paying Gresham 800k a season
for 3 years for free agency to generate pick 13.
then only pay him 600k per year for 3 years.
but frontload the extra 600k salary cap in this year, as likely lose that anyway unless can bring i someone on big dolllars like Clarry.
Apparently we have cultural issues and a deficient list.
Partially addressing the latter of these concerns by acquiring Oliver doesn’t seem like the right order of business.
if geelong can get bowes and pick 7 for what they did, then renegotiate his contract not ■■■■ their cap, we can do this
