2023 trade talk (Part 3)

Has to be. Tom Morris saying we’ve shown the most interest along with Adelaide confirms that for me.

We actually have a good track record of dealing with bad boys, Lovett, Hurley early days, Stringer are all good examples. Given the serious focus from Scott and clubs history making sure blokes don’t stay gambling addicts or crack heads.

So from a can we keep him on the straight and narrow for Oliver, it’s prob a yes. We can send stringer to say how bad he was in the party, gambling and girls lifestyle to prove that.

Hamstring issues we are ok with, we can send Caldwell down to let him know his tissue paper hamstrings are all good now. Just don’t mention back stress fractures, foot injuries or OP, and led check to see if they are all good as we can’t help there.

Cap wise we can afford his monster contract. So all good on the manager front.

Something to offer, we have some picks that are ok, are manufacturing a third for 8, 13, F1 or can drop one of those and package up an unreliable but talented tall, take your pick of Cox, Reid or Jones. (My preference is 8, 13, Cox). Dangle the unicorn, it might just be enough.

Question is should we - if we can get Oliver we can get pick 1 and Reid and prob for less.

It’s weird to say we think we have enough kids when we’ve actually taken the least amount of top 30 picks in the past 6 years.

Even Geelong has had more top 30 draftees than us!

Poor examples IMO.

Lovett was good for a few seasons and left during what should have been his peak periods.

Hurley kicking a cabbie in the balls was a completely out of character thing for Hurley, he was never a ‘bad boy’

Stringer being a ‘bad boy’ was such overblown nonsense- morally bankrupt, maybe, ‘bad boy’, nah.

It’s the Essington way.

Have a poor season, finish 12th-13th, say we are in for the long haul and we are going to do this rebuild properly, etc etc.

Then have a mediocre season, finish 7th-10th ish, get smashed in a few games, get embarrassed in the finals, overrate the list and chase the elusive talent that’s going to get us that finals win.

Then back to the poor season again. We never get ■■■■ enough, we never get good enough.

So let’s see if us buying a pick works

Would pucks 8 & 13 work for Oliver? Without touching our future first?

With their draft hand and those picks, Dees may be able to get to Reid?

Maybe the AFL will tick this off as our priority pick without actually asking for it. It’s in their interests for us to be near the top again
