2023 trade talk (Part 3)

Key backs from the draft
Weitering - best key defender from the draft.
Himmelberg - questionable
McKay
Doedee - probably counting him although not really FB
Marcus Adams - retired
Sam Collins
Hartley - delisted
At a stretch could say
Silvagni
Majak Daw

yep can comfortably say that Brereton talking out his arse and must be dissapointed Hawks couldn’t land him.

Not only is McKay is the best KPD from his drat year after Weitering; judging by that list he is one of the very few genuine KPD defenders. Rest are forwards remade as defenders (GWS Himmelberg), 3rd tall defender (Doedee), no longer playing (Adams), etc.

No wonder KP defenders are all the rage this year - there are so few genuine ones around.

The groundwork always starts early doesn’t it. We hear all the time, ‘club a’ has always maintained contact etc. Dodoro has reportedly signalled Essendon’s strong interest, putting its stake in the ground now. In 3 years, let’s see. Possibly Dodoros last big acquisition. Good things happen to those who wait.

If he was drafted by Essendon, it would be Dodoros fault for drafting tall skinny key position players :smile:

Brereton is salty because the dorks missed out of McKay.

Tigers chose Gibcus over Hobbs as the good talls are harder to get also

it’s a conspiracy to justify shitness.
geelong played a large chunk of games there, ditto dogs and saints, late 2000’s they were all playing in finals and or grand finals.

it’s obviously a condition that needs attention in recovery, but we also seem to be behind the times re fitness, and always going for other peoples seconds after their teams run has ended (west coasts fitness guy after 05/06, geelongs weights guy after 07-11, and now hawks guy who was apart of their fitness group, and then justin crowe to boot)

the club rarely if ever going out and recruits the top dog of fitness regimes, or someone world class, just people who were vaguely apart of the successful era and hope he can mimic the successful stuff enough.

I know we need the people but ins’t there supposed to be a lack of decent, modern equipment in the hanger as well.

Last year this draft this was meant to be an amazing draft, no one really knows 12 months out.

don’t know, you don’t need the fancy stuff, when collingwood were off in arizona in the late 000’s geelong players were running up sand dunes on belles beach.

someone like eastieboi if he still posts on here would know about the equipment side of things more.

but to me it’s more about mindset, you can get a decent work out anywhere, it’s whether you train with the right mindset and intensity is the key.

Won’t Xavier be a downgrade to any of North’s best 22 in 3 years?

When you play as a defender in a really ■■■■ team - you learn a hell of a lot. You get your arse handed to you more often than not thanks to repeat entry after repeat entry after repeat entry - the forwards getting it on a silver platter thanks to no midfield pressure. It makes you look decidedly average. You can get 5 kicked on you no problem at all - even if you’ve won 50-70% of the one-on-one contests you’ve been involved in.

Then your team gets better. The ball doesn’t come in as frequently, or as often, and the 50-70% of contests you win might be closer to the 70% than the 50%, and your opponent might only get a couple of looks at goal. Your performance looks significantly better - not because you’ve improved in any significant fashion, but because your team has.

Anyway the point is, our mids will be the making or breaking of McKay and fark Dermott.

Just as important for Zerk, will look better in a good team.

Ratagolea, not so sure on when one out at cats Weideman kicked 5 on him.

One other (potential) saving grace for McKay is that he’s still relatively inexperienced. So there’s probably genuine cause to think that he can improve on what he’s shown. Hopefully.

I made the point a few weeks ago, that the BZT and McKay situation was like a Premier League club selling a player for £50m and recruiting a better player, who plays the same position as an out of contract player.

It’s a perfect situation. I’d wish we strategically do more of it.

Essentially we are trading BZT for Duursma and McKay.
