How are these generated out of interest red?
Looks like fixtures are based upon pre finals ladder last year? Rather than post finals?
If we are going to continue with these double ups then in future years the rule needs a tweak. Think there should only be two double ups, and groups of 3 (eg 1-3, 4-6 etc) based upon ladder position post round 17 and then you can change ladder position within your group of 3.
Good question. It is based off last season’s positions after finals. Its a not straight forward process and its basically a manual workaround I have made whereby the key aim is to try to make every team have a harder fixture (based on finishing positions) than the teams below them. It doesn’t always work perfectly, as changing one game around can create massive swings.
I am happy for someone to provide a better solution. I have played around with the group of 3 idea you have proposed and the flaw is that the 3rd team needs to play someone each week. Therefore the logical solution would be to have a cross over match with someone from the next group of 3. However using this logic will see the team finishing 6th play 3rd in the cross over match, while the team finishing 7th will play 10th - which clearly is a massive (in theory) advantage to 7th over 6th.
