North taking the best available key back would make a lot of sense.

The funny thing is, North have actually got quite a few key backs on their list… they’re just all sh¡t

Corr
Nyuon
Pink
Kallan Dawson
Will Dawson
Comben.

Ok, to be fair Comben looks decent but staying on the park will be an issue going by his history.
The two Dawsons you can reference age/experience if you like.

But I remember them declaring that they’d scoured all the state leagues to find the best key defender not on an AFL list and Toby Pink was apparently that man!

If you’re gonna take on another key back from a state league you’d hope Blight is gonna be better! Haha

I’ve heard they have spoken to Patrick Weckert a few times

Geelong VFL ruck Ajang Kuol Mun is another to have been watched closely by recruiters in recent weeks, while lockdown defender Maxwell Benier has intrigued clubs since joining St Kilda’s VFL affiliate side at Sandringham.

St Kilda is considering VAFA player Benier and along with Essendon, the Saints are understood to have enquired about him, while Port Adelaide has also taken a look. Benier joined several Zebras players to train with Ross Lyon’s AFL squad last Thursday morning

Isnt he the strath or langhorne lad.

When is this draft??

@noobermensch or other VFL watchers.
What’s the go with Boyd Woodcock?
He was on the Port list and I thought he was tracking well at SANFL level until he was delisted.
He’s been on the Southport team for a few years and ran second in the Liston Medal.

He’s probably more of a midfielder, but I thought he could play a bit of a small forward role.
Not sure if he’s developed that since going to Southport.

Nah, mid North lad from up in my old zone

Boyd is a classic ‘tweener.
Very good at the second tier but not top tier standard. I just don’t see him having the tools or ability to play at the highest level

Benier seems like a half back. If we want another half back, i dunno why we don’t take Foley from our vfl team. He was really good again on the weekend, i saw him a lot at Calder too, reliable, great kick and good pace. Plus we get him for free as a category b rookie still i think.

Yeah he and Snelling occupy an awkward caterogory of being too good in the lower leagues but lacking the physical traits to play their natural game in the AFL

I wouldnt call myself a big VFL watcher but I’ve seen him play a few times for Southport. He plays a pretty typical mid resting forward type role for them from what I’ve seen. He’s pretty dominant at VFL level. I thought he might get picked up in the MSD last year but it didnt happen for him.

I don’t know exactly why AFL clubs arent interested, but I can offer some guesses. He’s not big, under 180cm and he’s not a super athlete as far as I can tell. His defensive efforts are a bit inconsistent. It might be that he gets to star for Southport because they build their midfield structure around him and cover his weaknesses. At VFL level he gets to play like Christian Petracca, but in an AFL team he’d have responsibilities that he might not be suited for.

We need small forwards Jack Callinan or Koen Sanchez, Tarkyn O’Leary would be useful as too would be Kade De La Rue :+1:

Serious question but what makes you want those guys O’Leary hasn’t been great at all in the vfl hasn’t kicked a goal and would have to be averaging less than 10 touches a game and Koen Sanchez has only had one good game in the wafl reserves against Peel but that’s it.
And according to ace man callihan doesn’t sound to be going great in the sanfl reserves either.
Am I missing something with them?

How’s that Kim Kantilla guy going this season, @benfti ?

Edit: Never mind. Looks like he can’t even crack a game for Claremont’s senior team.

What a name.
I mean - it’s as close as you can get to ‘erect ■■■■■’.

We had a player at Norwood called Roger Woodcock who is a club legend and one end the ground carries his name.
Teammates nicknamed him Splinter Di*k and having a first name that is Rogerwas a double whammy
