2024 mid season draft

Carslie and Saad are completely different.

Saad was a pure pro and a gun. I don’t think he finished lower than 4th in our B&F.

Carslie was a pain in the arse, not a bright cat like a spoilt brat.

I would welcome Saad back with open arms. But I never want to see Carslie within 10kms of the club.

I’ve got a lot of leeway for any Essendon player who was with the club for 2012 and the following years. It must have been hell.

I didn’t like Carlisle’s comments about the club, true as they may have turned out to be. And I did find his reputation as a step ladder amusing.

However, for years, while he wore Saints colours, and they played so terribly, he’d clunk mark after mark in defence every week. Without him there, they would have suffered so many more embarrassing losses.

It amused me he went from one bad club to another.

Surely there’s a speedy small forward tearing it up in some state league around the country

Haven’t watched the videos yet, but draft profile looks right down our alley.
Short with question marks on speed and hurt factor :joy:

He’s 180cm so unless you want a tall small forward, height isn’t a problem.
I suppose you could hope for lightning quick with a high hurt factor, but it’s the mid season draft - I don’t think you should hold your breath for the perfect player. An 18yo who is doing well in the VFL sounds pretty good to me.

He’s 175cm everywhere I see and relax, I’m joking about his draft profile.
Figured the emoji conveyed that, might need to throw in a /s too next time. Also doesn’t the article say he’s playing in the wafl?
And he’s 20…

Who are you actually talking about here?

Whilst we have done well with some MSD picks you have to expect really that players will be picked with deficiences / question marks

Perhaps Jed worked hard since his draft year as per Martin

@EssendonPride1 - looks like did a stint with Port’s SANFL side and now in WAFL

I think we’re at cross purposes here @EssendonPride1.
I’m talking about Oskar Smartt and I don’t think you are.
As far as draft profile is concerned, the following is Kevin Sheahan’s pre draft write up of Smartt -
Oskar Smartt
State: Victoria Country
State League Club: Bendigo Pioneers
Community Club; Leitchville Gunbower
Date of Birth: 26/10/05
Height: 180cm

Powerful midfielder/forward who is very strong in the contest and has an excellent leap with strong hands overhead. Showed good speed and courage in his 10 matches with the Bendigo Pioneers averaging 12.6 disposals and earned selection in two matches for Victoria Country at the National Championships, playing against South Australia and Victoria Metro. His 3.02 seconds on the 20m sprint at the state Draft Combine confirmed his pace.

Yeah I was replying to the post about Dodoro scouting Jed Hagan directly above mine :joy:.
Hence my confusion at your reply.

All good, I’ve watched Smartt in all the VFL games he played for us. Definitely wouldn’t be against giving him a chance in the MSD

Sounds like a Dud special. I was looking forward to the MSD being the first one in 2 decades where the Dud is not involved. Now i am depressed again

From the limited amount of VFL games I’ve watched I’d say Smartt has left a good impression on me. I’d say from a list needs perspective we should target the quickest small forward who likes to chase and tackle! Not sure if any of the lower leagues have any of these though…

Pace is the no.1 requirement fro a small forward.

I reckon kicking lots of goals would be right up there.

Lol, when @barnz asked yesterday if there was a speedy small forward in a state league, I went looking at the stats, and Hagan’s the only small under 25 who’s scored goals worth a ■■■■. I didn’t reply with his name because he’s not speedy and looks like late 90s Jay Mohr.

except that slow blokes don’t do it in the afl

I saw him a ew times last year at SANFL and he was garbage in a couple of them and serviceable in a couple. He may have improved back home but he wasn’t draft material last year IMO
