2025 draft spec

I would re-plot this with the X-axis being the bid on pick, and the Y-axis being the first matching pick, but in reverse order (#1 at the top to #60 at the bottom). Then remove the blue line.

I think that will be easier to read and compare.

On your comment in the second post with the charts, picks don’t get pushed out due to bidding. At worst that’s a 1-to-1 match as a pick gets eaten to pay for the extra pick. But if a teams matches with two picks, then they come in. If our kids are picked on in the twenties, by then 4th rounders may have become decent third rounders.

Even if there are no adjustments, matching will be MUCH harder with the Tasmania concessions. We need to be on the front foot arguing the discount should be increased for 2027. Or hoping Tassie’s entry is delayed a year.

I definitely plan to try and ask about this at the AGM.

I would definitely be trading for 2027 picks both due to this, and that if Tassie goes ahead We need the points. And it helps build the argument @Crod made about hurting teams that have prepared. If nobody has traded 2027 picks the AFL can change things. If we have extra 2027 picks for matching we can cry ‘no fair’.

Good idea…I think bid matching looks like this:

I’m falling behind on the acronyms. Who are BOB and NRT?

Remember, Brisbane traded two (latish) firsts for Melbourne’s 2021 first. The rate was pretty appalling to trade out of 2020.

And I’d argue given what Cox, Perkins showed after 2021, and Reid since, that development and injuries has been a big part of the problem.

See above.

It’s great to see more exposed form coming out this time of year. Huge thanks to Noobs and others, incredible work to provide this level of intel for us. I’ll leave it to the experts but I just hope we look at what the list needs rather than end up where we’ve been in forever which is an oversupply in some positions (and not enough elite in this position) and an undersupply in others (spending draft after draft trying to find ‘the one’). Let’s cut the cord and bring the list needs in rather than keep flogging the list cloggers

Actually, the rumours were that Draper wanted to play as #1 ruck to stay.

Via Sen…

With the Coates Talent League season nearing its conclusion, Round 18 saw some very impressive performances from many potential draftees.

Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves was the round’s best performer accumulating 30 possessions and kicking five goals. This may be the best individual performance the CTL has seen this season from the Dandenong Stingrays talent.

Potential top 10 pick Thomas Burton also went crazy. The Western Jets and AFL Academy midfielder managed 31 disposals, 11 inside 50s, five tackles, and a goal. Burton has been touted as one of 2025’s best midfield prospects and this performance shows why he’s rated so highly.

Another potential top 10 pick, Oliver Greeves, had a best-on-ground performance as well. The 191cm midfielder from the Eastern Ranges racked up 28 disposals, six marks, and booted a goal.

Carlton NGA prospect, Jack Ison, from the Oakleigh Chargers had another impressive performance, kicking two goals whilst accumulating 22 disposals. After a solid National Championships carnival, the Blues could have another young gun on their hands here.

Calder Cannons and Essendon NGA duo Hussein El Achkar and Adam Sweid also dominated in their small forward roles. El Achkar booted three goals from 14 disposals, while Sweid kicked two from 16 touches.

Below are the 10 best performers for Round 18 in the CTL, based off fantasy points:

3 - Roman Moxon (NK) – 95

Hopper and Taranto have both been in the system 10 and 9 years. Any draftee will really be impacting 3+ years from now. Surely Richmond are looking beyond them for this and future drafts?

And won’t WCE just take Duursma at #1 making our trade up pointless? He’s the only one I’d give up 2 early firsts to get.

You’d obviously need them to tell you who they were taking at #1 as part of any deal. If it was the player you wanted then you just don’t it.

Why wouldn’t they just lie? Later say they changed their mind?

If we have 5, 6 and 7 and Duursma, CDT, Day and Lindsay are gone, I think I’d (currently ) hope for Cummings, Schubert, trade the last back for a later pick + 2027 currency and get Farrow, get BOB with a second rounder and match Sweid with one of the seconds. Hope to get El Achkar with a late or free match.

We would live trade.

Prob pick 2 or even pick 3 with Richmond. They might want different players

Taranto is 27 and Hopper 28. Its a little difference than sunsetting a guy turning 30. I imagine they would still expect those two will be a part of the team as they move back up the ladder.

I could be wrong, but I suspect they would see other list needs as more pressing, but maybe not. There’s a lot of talk on their board of needing to inject more pace through the middle. They’re quite keen on Grlj.

This kind of an incredible, dominant performance creates questions that recruiters need to answer. Is Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves the most talented prospect in the draft pool? Has he been hampered all season by injuries that have prevented him from fully showing what he has to offer?

No other prospect has had such a huge gap between his best and his worst this year, and this might just be the best single game performance we’ve seen this year. It’s the first time that he’s looked convincing playing on ball, showing that he’s capable of getting first hands on it and driving his team forward. His running power was as elite as always, but instead of running to get to a contest and then hovering around ineffectively he was much more active and impactful. His elite traits like his ball skills and marking are so good that if he can find the ball 29 times like he did in this game he is going to dominate.

I like the look of Grlj, that kinda pace is always welcome in the middle!
