2025 draft spec

Fred is my choice of midfielders in this draft, ever since last year’s game on grand final day, he has good skills, both sides of the body and the way he moves reminds me of Bailey Humphrey. He’s also consistent. Him and Lindsay would be a good result if they wanted to go an inside and outside mid.

I’d say he’s not powerful and explosive like Bailey is at this stage. His pace is one of the knocks on him, but the skills are sublime for sure.

Apologies if you’ve answered this, but do you think the top end isn’t as strong as other years, like Cal has suggested?

I think if you remove all the club linked prospects from the pool then I’d say its not looking like a great crop at this stage, but I also think that if you can get into the top 10 there are some really nice prospects in there, and its quite a diverse group, not just full of pure mids like in drafts past.

I’m not saying that this was all a 4D chess grand plan (I think we were probably forced into trading last years pick and made the best of an awkward but welcome change to the NGA rules with Kako) but over all its not a bad thing to have taken a bunch of deeper picks last year in a deep pool, and this year a couple up the pointy end in a weaker pool.

I’m comfortable and confident that if we keep both picks and they end up in the top 10 we’ll be able to pick some really talented kids that fit our needs well.

The key is for us and Demons to keep losing games.

Hypothetically If we ended up with pick 4+5
That could blow out to 7+8 after Uwland, Annable, Patterson + potentially King bids. You would hope that we have done our homework on them to force the bid if not bidded yet as well.

If Eagles went Sharp
Then Tigers with 2+3 Duursma + Duff-Tyler
ignoring the academy boys leaves us with 2 picks and could go for 2 of Lindsay, Greeves, Grlj, Hibbons-Hargraves, Phillipou

Or even pick one player and trade out the other pick into next years draft or acquire points for bewick’s draft year.

We also might come into a situation like we did with Davey where El-Achkar and Sweid are not bid on before our second rounders.

Ahhh the Davey boys.

2018-2021 on Blitz - The rest of the comp better look out when we get gifted those Davey twins. I heard they are both fkg guns and will probably be first rounders. And we get them both!! Our small forwards stocks will be sorted for a decade :raised_hands:t3:

2025 on Blitz - Yeah… umm… fark.

we needed quality small forwards.

You can add Tex as well.

If only Tex and Alwyn were more like Gary Ablett Jnr and Nsaiah Wanganeen-Milera.

Jayden did have elite speed.

I’d have easily taken them being more like their old man and uncle than even shooting that high. Ah well, not to be. If they were genuinely good they would have been ruined by injury anyway as is the EFC experience.

Alwyn was supposed to be mroe like his uncle and Jayden his dad.

I did watch some of Alwyn in draft year, just thought he would make it, started off ok first few AFL games. Now is on the scrap heap. Preseason watchers saw a fitter more involved player, then injured and now stuck in VFL.

We could actually use a fit winger at the moment. Lual was running ragged and in the wrong spots, Day-wicks spent time on the wing last week too. Blicavs blew both of them up. Clarke really should be there on the wing but is needed at half back. Always hoped Alwyn could be tried in his uncles role at half back.

There’s a baseline for competitiveness and physicality, even for outside leaning players. Unfortunately this was/has never been met by either.

And if you’re ordinary in that regard you need to be absolutely exceptional, not just fair to good, with ball in hand execution and decision making and fitness.

Apparently, Jayden is the better of the two, so watch out for when he returns from injury.

The youngest is supposed to be the best, but may struggle to get drafted.

We could be in a position where we trade 1 of our 2 firsts for Eagles F1st and extras, especially if they rate the WA talent, if we don’t rate the top end talent we can double up next year.

W.A just got thrashed by S.A. so i dunno if their squad is very strong.

W.A in general really need to get on top of their under age development, what they’re producing for their size lately has been pathetic.

Yep that’s what we need. I would trade up for NHH at whatever pick was needed. Pick 4 and 5 for pick 1 if needed

My 2c, of the non-NGA linked players, there’s a strong crop of 6 who I really like.

In order:
1 Duursma
2 Sharp
3 CDT

Tier break

4 Lindsay
5 NHH
6 The Fred

I’m a bit lower on Greeves and Grlj than others so we’ll see how that ends up.

So if we end up with say pick 4 & 6 I’ll be pretty happy to take the to the draft.

I remember being really excited we had 4 indigenous flashy forwards come in, in the one off season, finally addressing a small forward weakness on the field and also a weakness in our indigenous development.

The 4 being tippa, mankura (never given a chance), j
Davey (never given a chance) and alwyn (mis developed by being gifted senior games when he was nowhere near ready for it).

It’s been disappointing to say the least.

Brad Scott has very little time for players that require effort it seems. Munkara gone after one season, Jayden Davey turfed, looks like his brother will be gone too. Meanwhile, lets offer plodders like Prior, Kelly and Jones multiple years.

I was going to say exactly this. He likes vanilla plodders that are hard workers but have a low ceiling (menzie, kelly, prior, jones, weid etc), over blokes that have a high ceiling, but require investment and development (mankura, massimo, daveys, el hawli etc).
