He has this touch or ground ball capability than this just so badly needed in our team.
He’s a goer no doubt about it.
Really putting together an extremely impressive first set of games.

Imagine having both Roberts and Massimo bouncing around the peripheries and kicking darts to eachother
I prefer Jake Kelly and Harry Jones off the wings, with the occasional flash of a perennially injured Xavier duursma.
Got absolutely sold a lemon by a senior player in Laverde 20 metres out. Otherwise, thought he’s been really solid.
Might be a smoky for the rising star next year if he keeps putting up these kinds of numbers.
Has the knack of always getting himself between the ball and his opponent
That free kick really irked me. Yes it was there and yes Archie was in a lose lose situation. But how many times a game do you see players get tackled and the ball comes free or they make an attempt without a legal disposal and play in is called.
There was a moment in the second quarter I think, where a Brisbane player led to the ball carrier on the wing, Roberts sprinted from no where and dived to try and get a fist in just to stop the mark.
That was all I needed to see to know what kind of person he is, and it made me both happy and sad at the same time.
Happy because we are very lucky he slipped through to us but sad because it really shows the mentality of this group that a 3 game player is more driven to succeed than 95% of the group who have been consistently embarrassed on the big stage.
Players like Roberts win you premierships, and no I am not going over the top with that. You need guys who are so driven to win they will give every ounce of energy their body has to get them there.
Want something to smile about?
Go to 12:30 of the third quarter, folks and look at the top of your screen.
One of the more spirited pieces of footy I’ve seen from us in the second half of the year. Outstanding stuff.
Don’t make me watch anymore of us 2024. What did he do? Was that were he was told off by the umps?
Just because you say something a lot of times doesn’t make it factual CB, actually it makes you sound more stubborn than what you claim the coach to be.
Not getting excited. How many times has a player joined Essington, had a great first season and then got comfortable with life like all the others and then just plateaued. Or, got constantly injured.
Was he playing halfback last night? Felt he was half back, and Martin was back on the wing
I only caught a few centre bounces, but he was coming off the wing on both of those. Langford was on the other.
I caught another snippet of play.
We had the ball on the attacking side of wing. Got it to a player in the middle (80m out). He chose not to kick it into the forward line because that would be what you usually do in such a great position. He kicked it to Archie around 70m out. He could have run in and taken a shot, but didn’t. Instead he handball it to Caldwell. He could have run in and taken a shot. Instead he kicks it into the pocket where no one was leading. Could probably have been called a ‘not sufficient intent’ free kick.
Hopefully Arch doesn’t descend into nothingness like the majority of our players once they get used to the losing.
Think it will be between Archie and Logan Evans for the rising star nom this week.
They were both very good. Evans did have 8 of his 23 disposals as kick ins though but he did look very good. Both deserving, toss of the coin.
There’s also a snippet of Archie half way through the third quarter. Laverde one on two against Hipwood and Morris and naturally gets out marked with no support.
Lowman comes in and shoulders Laverde with contempt, Archie says hang on and gets right back into Lowman.
Inspiring stuff, and he’s only 18.
I fear many players of the past have stared well and then the habit of previous generation have crept in, especially the lack of physicality. My hope with Brad is that this will no longer happen. I also think the extra VFL time served Archie well. Sometimes its good to hold them back and given them confidence and time to settle. I think it was the right decision in this case and that’s - not definative - but a bit evident in his ability to perfrom weekly since his selection.
He’s not wrong though. Brad kept playing Hep andKelly in front of him even when it was crystal clear there was a guy in the VFL who was in much better form
It’s a joke that Roberts didn’t play more games this year. That’s entirely on Scott
Lowman is going to make himself very unpopular very quickly I suspect
Taken at pick 20 when we took Hobbs at 13, pretty clear which one the side could use more of.
