Another year on the list with no guarantee of selection is what I suggested previously.
It would depend on his for form. If he is out of sorts as we saw earlier this year then he would have to accept VFL or retire. He may only be a depth player next year but the club would need to spell that out clearly before contracts are signed.
We don’t always have a full list of players available to suit each position and if current form is replicated next season he will provide a valuable contribution or backup in certain situations…
I agree. The issue is that certain people seem adverse to omitting the captain. If he is to not have guaranteed selection he must step down from being captain to keep these people happy. The problem is who we promote to being captain. Lots of things to consider when determining Hep’s contract (or no contract.)
The question is does anyone think the 2023+ Dyson is going to get better than the 2022 version. If the answer is no…1 year tops and he is lucky to get that
This is Dyson playing for a contract. This is as good as it gets. We have to start making tough footy decisions. This decision should be an easy one. Can’t wait to see what happens.
Heppell will be the white elephant all next year if he stays, it’d be better for the club, team and the next captain if he was moved on in a respectful manner.
The club has admitted that they’ve gone easy on the player after what happened 10 years ago, and there ready to double down and do it again by accommodating Heppell wishes one last time.
Next year would have been the perfect time to usher in a new era, but we’ll drag it out another 12 months for the sake of being nice.
