In any profession you don’t pick your people leader. And football is no longer just a sport. It’s a business and professional so no you shouldn’t. All clubs have HR and recruitment maybe our boffins could actually pick a leader instead of leadership qualities.
Can’t wait to hear the talk back on morning radio. It’s going to be all bombers tomorrow. I really think after that interview that it’s time for Dyson to step down as captain. I think just for his own mental health he needs to clear his head. Saying that who steps up. Most on here want a captain with some mongrel but who is that. Going through the list the cupboard is pretty bare in that area.
Make McGrath captain. He was the only one with damaging possessions that actively brought his team mates into the game.
He was the only one who flew the flag against Sydney aggression.
Has consistently been our best in finals.

And Dyson saying he didn’t see the incident involving Parker and Shiel. If Truck didn’t call Dyson into his office and show him the incident first thing this morning and ask what are we going to do about this then Truck should step down immediately. Absolute comedy show.

I really don’t think handing the keys to someone else during this shitstorm is a good idea. Things won’t magically get better with a new skipper.
Let Heppell take the heat for the rest of this season. Give whoever is next at least some chance of starting with a clean slate.

If Dyson Heppell said the opposite of everything that ever comes out his mouth he might actually resemble an AFL captain.
Dys speaks like he’s parroting something someone else has told him about leadership.

The fact that it was straight on the Essendon website tells the story, the club needed someone to take the heat off and Hepp stepped up.
I’m not mad at Hepp, I’m mad at the ones making these decisions while hiding in the shadows.

Will there be any captain material with a bit of mongrel in the pre season draft. The Vanilla Bean Bombers.
The only players I think have leadership qualities are Rids, Langers and Zac. All have composure and a bit of mongrel and most importantly, don’t like losing.
Thats it, Hobbs in time looking at his efforts for a first yeara, seems promising

It all started so well for Dyson. Gets drafted to the club he supported, was being coached by James Hird, wins the rising star. Loses a final, but oh well, plenty more finals where that came from. This is Essendon, and Hirdy is back.
Then Dank appears.
Fast forward 5 years, and Dyson - after just being robbed of a full season in the prime of his career - has to captain the club out of the stinking mess it was in.
Fast forward 5 more years, and after he finally gets to 200 games, he has to front a hostile interview about why the football club is still a giant steaming pile of sh*t.
The footy gods haven’t been kind to those saga boys who stuck around.
