Why involve the crows? Carlisle and Melksham pick for 5?
Iām not against either option;
- pick 5 & losing 23
- or pick 9 & keeping 23.
Carlisle & Melksham for #5 is a terrible deal for us.
Adelaide giving up #28 to move 4 spots up in the draft?
I think we would be better keeping 4, 9 and our second rounder.
We need to rebuild through the draft and that would give us 2 top 10 picks and 2 picks in the 20ās⦠if we can convert 3 of those into 200 game players⦠it will be a great way to rebuild after draft penalties.
Despite the billing of a āweakā draft⦠there will be plenty of talent at the top still available with Pick 9⦠and it gives us a chance to take an early gamble on a guy like Rioli to give us some speed. Also gives us options to grab 2 talls and 2 midsā¦
According to 5AA, STK have offered #5 to the Crows for #9 and #28. #9 goes to us for Carlisle.Assuming that either #28 or STK 2nd pick goes for Freeman, it opens an interesting question. Surely we could throw in pick 23 instead of involving Crows. So two options:
Pick 4 and 5 (plus melksham pick)
Or
Pick 4, 9 and 23.( plus melksham pick)
It seems counterintuitive, but in an even and shallow draft it may not be the best thing to run with the two pick version. If you think you can get the player you want at #9, and you think an even crop will present several candidates in the early 20ās, then a club starved of draft picks might prefer the 3 pick pathway.
Considering one of Parish or Francis is guaranteed if we want them at #4. Look for a tall (supposedly there are good talls for the 1st round) or 2nd mid at our 2nd pick and then see what falls through to 23 and 25. If the talent dries up at 30, four prior to 25 is a good haul.
My guess is the Crows want Francis as pick 5, though EFC may select Francis with pick 4.
I could happily live with 4,9 and 23.
Carlton clearly tanking for Jake having been 52 points up in 3rd qtr. against Melb.
Now 17 points up with 18 minutes to play. The tank is on. Carlton wonāt win.

I bet they wonāt investigate Fitzys beloved Carlton. Farce.

There was a kick into our forward 50, maybe just before that final play, where Carlisle was out ahead of his opponent (Lynch) who the commentators said had slipped or fallen over, and the kick went high and slow, over his head, and was an easy spoil. I would need to see it again to remember who kicked it, but it was a pretty easy kick and should have been easy to put it in front of him.
But, he would have missed the set shot from 35 straight in front anyway.
Very positive, pro-Carlisle article on the club web site.... does have the taste of being a fluff piece so beware.Interim Essendon Coach Matthew Egan has commended Jake Carlisle for the way he has conducted himself in recent weeks.
Carlisle came within metres of being the hero for the Bombers last night as his last second snap went through for a behind in the sideās two-point loss to Gold Coast.
āAs soon as (Tom) Lynch went behind the ball, he put himself one out of the square and just tried to make Lynch defend one on one,ā Egan told 3AW today.
āHe was actually out on the lead, I reckon he had five or six metres on the lead and the kick just went over his head.ā
The match against the Suns came after a week where there were claims of discontent, but Egan said Carlisle has been excellent to work with.
āHe was pretty upset when the article came out the other day,ā he said.
āHe was walking off the ground and he swore or something like that but it was nothing against the club.
āI used to sit on the bench at Geelong when I was development coach and I used to get yelled at by Joel Corey for sitting in his chair.
āThen Iād get yelled by (Jimmy) Bartel for putting the drink bottle in the wrong place.
āItās what happens when you want to win and you get frustrated and I think thatās all that happened with Jake.ā
Carlisle is out of contract at the end of the season and given his ability to play at either end of the ground, his services are likely to be highly sought after.
But Egan said Carlisleās actions have been positive.
āIāve been his line coach for the last four weeks and heās been an absolute pleasure to coach,ā he said.
āHeās always in my office, heās wanting to learn, heās really engaged with the group.
āIf he was disengaged, if he didnāt want to talk with players Iād get that feeling (that he may leave) but heās the opposite.
āAfter the loss last week (against Adelaide) we caught up as a group and he was probably the last to leave. Heās in a really good frame of mind.
āThere is a fair bit going on at our club as well so I can understand itās a big decision for him.
āHis actions so far and what Iāve seen I can only speak pretty positively about him.ā
if Egan is referring to Jakes on the siren shot, he needs to watch the game closer. Demps handballed it short behind him as he was running towards goal.
Egan is referring to the Dempsey kick before the handball
With it flipped like that I donāt see the saints going for it frankly. As sal said theyād be better off trying to convince us. May just be a bit of a feint thrown out to the media to get us to throw in the melk pick
Hmm, my error. It's actually Adelaide who want to do the deal for 5, not St kilda approaching them. According to Rowe.
Ouch, that hurts if 24 gets sainta freeman then 9 it is

I reckon we should offer to trade our first rounder next year for the Saintsā first rounder next year as a way to say āweāre finishing higher than you carnts and weāre willing to back it upā
Why won't they accept Carisle and pick 24 pick 5We might not be offering it?
Or Pies want more for Freeman.
Or they are waiting for us to chuck in a school girl as well
Itās worth offering 24 also to get pick 5.
I wish they would axe this over-complicated draft pick transfer payment system and bring back transfer fees. Draft picks are a hopeless currency, their value is basically a gamble and some draft pick values are too high to be useful. It's like every club has dollar bills of different unknown values & getting change is a nightmare. The transfer fee could be a % of the contract value. This would align the players interests and the selling club in maximising the value of the contract.
Give every club certain amount of ādraft dollarsā which is used to ābuyā players and then used to bid for picks in the draft. Never have an issue with not having change.
Why wonāt they accept Carisle and pick 24 pick 5
