Jones isn’t one of our best players. We hope he will be one day, but he wouldn’t be best 15 at the moment
He is one of our most important players though.
I disagree. Again, we want him to be, but he’s not yet.
His absence won’t really have much/any bearing on the result.
Have to disagree there, I think he is vital to our forward set up and structure.
With 3 very hard games to start the season, the last thing we needed was to be missing another forward.
I expect Cox to fly right in to Jones’s position and make the most of it, could be the opportunity he needs.
Also alows Redman up to the wing and closer to goal, and we know he’s a great shot from 50.
If waterman is replacing Jones we are in for a world of pain
Damn! Poor Harry he must be so frustrated. Sad we wont see him out on the ground for at least a month. Good luck with the recovery Harry.
he did manage to kick 4 goals against collingwood when jones went out of the side last year. But you’ve already made your mind up on waterman. he actually can nab a few goals
he’s not going to play round 1 regardless though, but you wouldnt lose much if he did come in for Jones - not as much as your making out, anyway
What is Waterman’s injury status?
Would much prefer they play 2MP perm FF and give Bryan some game time chopping out draper.
He’s fit and injury free.
Has been for a couple of months at least.
They’ve just had him on a specialised program involving a heap of running and been playing him in the 2’s as a midfielder.
Rolled an ankle…how the fark in this day and age does a player roll their ankle … surely they are taped every training run
Not the end of the world, the side is still developing, give other players who we know are ready to have a crack an opportunity to do so.
Here are the forwards I think are already ready to go - in jersey number order, with potential KPFs in bold:
- Langford
- Smith
- Francis
- Snelling
- Cox
- Perkins
- Wright
- Stringer
- Baldwin
- Guelfi
- Martin
- Waterman
We have 12 players ready to play in the 6 forward positions not even allowing for the mids rotating through there, with 5 who can legitimately hold down a key forward position.
With Jones, Walla and Wanganeen in the wings to come in during the year and potentially the developing Reid and Eyre and possibly others, the stocks aren’t bad.
I really do think we are in the position of worrying about who isn’t getting the chance to develop rather than panicking about who isn’t available for a couple of weeks.
From a players point of view, many are going to be more concerned about how they break back into the side, and there is a school of thought that Jones was perhaps behind Francis and Baldwin already from the point of view of his match readiness before this injury. I’m sure he will be claiming his place before the end of the season, but there is no mad rush.
I’m really looking forward to see how whoever is available goes.
Other clubs get injuries too.
It’s not just us.
Exactly. Unlikely we are winning a flag this year, so yes it sucks, but it’s hardly the end of the world.
This shows how we’ve been conditioned. We’ve had a rotten run for years and now missing 3 from best 22 is a good result. Kind of agreeing but says a lot
Can you move the Camira, to get to the Torana, to get to the Commadore?
This is where the coaches earn their pay. Jones is important to the forward structure, but he goes missing for large parts of games because he’s not physically ready to impose himself as a KPF.
Coaches need to piece together a competitive forward line with part-timers and some goal kicking mids, and get the mids to deliver the ball in the method that suits the makeshift structure.
It’s not Jones missing that will determine the result but how well we adapt to the 2nd choice forward line. We have tended not to connect well with the forwards in the recent past, so if cats match us around the ball we’ll probably lose.
Every club has this every year, missing a few from their best 22. It doesn’t “say a lot” at all.
Broken clock right twice a day blah blah blah
