We get all the injury.

lucky they took it easy in the practice match to avoid injuries.

Waterman and Jones play completely different roles, one does not replace the other. So not a change of like for like.

Jones 1 month Essendon equals 6 months

Strapping an ankle offers support but isn’t a silver bullet. Any player who runs and jumps at the footy runs the risk of an ankle.

The news sucks but it won’t affect our best 22 given Baldwin and Francis have had better pre-seasons.

Extremely exciting to debut and get games into Baldwin.

Though I am not a medical person, I reckon ‘taping’ does sfa.

Did it for 15 years…without correct taping protecting my ankles from rolling, would have been injured most of the time IMO…some people have weak ankles (me), some weak knees etc etc. 100%, correct ankle taping prevents accidental ankle rolls…when other forces are at play, ankles can still roll I will admit, mostly not though.

Has to be something like this

Perkins. Baldwin Stringer

Langford. Wright. Martin

Francis, Smith on the I/C

Jones out is a big loss

Perkins & Package are a waste in pockets.
I’d like to see but doubt I will-

FF.Wanganeen 2MP (must stay at home) Baldwin
HFLangford Franga/Package. Archie

Taping ankles leads to weak ankles as well, which they found in the state netball leagues where it was mandatory. Its just like any injury, a probability game.

Yeah but pockets aren’t really playing in the pockets these days. All forwards generally either roam when attacking or zone when defending.

They are HFF and Baldwin CHF

I guess at the least, taping makes you aware of the joint and maybe helps you keep things aligned properly. I don’t believe tape in itself has the capacity to actually hold anything together in a way that counts. But I think I’m in the minority about this.

In my playing days, not only did we have our ankles strapped, we also had boots that went over our ankles. We almost never had anyone going down with ankle problems, so it would be interesting if anyone has any statistics to see what change in ankle injuries happened before 1970 and after 1970.
Remember John Coleman? He had ankle covering boots and was a champion. If Jones’ ankles are a problem and if there is data to back it up, maybe Jones could go back to Coleman-style boots?

If Coleman didn’t have locked ankles, maybe his knee wouldn’t have copped the career-ending torque.

Ankle taping can be beneficial to avoid re-injuring an ankle, but is not beneficial as a preventative for an ankle injury.

Also, you have to be very careful as if you immobilise the ankle it can have a detrimental effect on other parts of the body (knee) as they need to compensate for the immobilised parts.

Ideally the focus will be on mobilising and strengthening to allow Jones to have a long career. Tape may be used initially, but they will be very keen to move away from the need to tape regularly.

I think and can’t remember citing source that it is the focus on reducing knees that sees increase in ankle injuries, being less catostrophic… before the rise of syndesmosis anyway

Who hasn’t rolled an ankle and strained a few ligaments playing footy?
Alternate between ice bucket and ultrasound for first week.
By week 2 the more light exercise you put into it the better - walking, swimming.
By week 3 he’ll be on the exercise bike, running by end of it.
Strap it up for training week 4, plays week 5.
Shouldn’t lose much fitness base at all.
