I liked it when we gave Joe a taste during his first year on the list. He played 5 games and kicked 3 goals 9 . By the end of his second season he was our best player in a final.
So Iâm all for Harry getting a game or 2 to show him what he needs to work on over the preseason.
The thing with Jones âgetting a tasteâ is that heâs obviously not going to match the older guys strength wise, so heâd need to run off them and run them into the ground BUT he has had no pre season, and is 3 scratch matches past a foot injury, so heâs also not going to have the endurance base to do that.
Iâm all for giving players a taste, but Iâm not for âsetting up players to failâ. I donât want him walking off with his confidence shot. Bring him in for a taste when and if you think heâll be able to compete enough to take some positives away, as well as an understanding of whatâs needed at the next level. Donât bring him in just because youâve run out of ideas with the rest of the list.
He was played out of necessity. I wouldnât have thought that he was the reason that we won the flag that year. His opponent kicked 7 in the GF against him. Not his fault, he was only a kid.
You normally play your best back on their best forward unless your freeing them up to be the zone defender. Either way I donât see some AA level back playing tight on a first gamer.
His role will be to get on his bike and run up and back to provide an option. Cant see him getting into too many wrestling contests. Also on the fitness front, the scratch matches have been 16 a side mostly, which is really stretching guys as they need to run and run. So I think he will be ok
