I liked it when we gave Joe a taste during his first year on the list. He played 5 games and kicked 3 goals 9 :man_facepalming:. By the end of his second season he was our best player in a final.

So I’m all for Harry getting a game or 2 to show him what he needs to work on over the preseason.

They said that about Fletcher

The club has seemed quite happy to break players in the recent past

Which is why we ended up not playing him on the big power forwards, because they did.

And he wasn’t ready.

A premiership medal in game 17 suggests that Fletch was more than ready.

The thing with Jones “getting a taste” is that he’s obviously not going to match the older guys strength wise, so he’d need to run off them and run them into the ground BUT he has had no pre season, and is 3 scratch matches past a foot injury, so he’s also not going to have the endurance base to do that.

I’m all for giving players a taste, but I’m not for “setting up players to fail”. I don’t want him walking off with his confidence shot. Bring him in for a taste when and if you think he’ll be able to compete enough to take some positives away, as well as an understanding of what’s needed at the next level. Don’t bring him in just because you’ve run out of ideas with the rest of the list.

He was played out of necessity. I wouldn’t have thought that he was the reason that we won the flag that year. His opponent kicked 7 in the GF against him. Not his fault, he was only a kid.

Not sure about that, we had a pretty handy full back in Anthony Daniher, however Fletcher was simply the better option.

Daniher was finished. Fletcher was not ready, but he battled hard. If you were to go through the FF’s of that era, he is lucky to still be alive.

It shows how good he was that, not only did he survive, but he also went on and played 400 games.

Daniher was SO cooked by that stage.

Fletcher missed the first final, which Daniher filled in for, and Kernahan destroyed him too, probably moreso.

Harry does t need to play on a monster KPD, bring him in as a flanker just for the run.

Who cares if it throws our structure out where not playing finals, development is more important.

I don’t think you get to choose who plays on you?

You normally play your best back on their best forward unless your freeing them up to be the zone defender. Either way I don’t see some AA level back playing tight on a first gamer.

Have Hawthorn got any AA level backs?
They do, but his ACL is farked.

His role will be to get on his bike and run up and back to provide an option. Cant see him getting into too many wrestling contests. Also on the fitness front, the scratch matches have been 16 a side mostly, which is really stretching guys as they need to run and run. So I think he will be ok

Now Draper and Mozzie have debuted, is this thread heating up to demand a Debut for Jonesy?
