Go well young lad.

Just over 1yr since his debut game. Put on more size, working on his ruck craft and impacting around the ground.

Need him to be an aerial presence fwd and shouldn’t get pushed around by young Grainger-Barass who likely will be matched up on

Phillips must be ready to return if Truck is giving big Bryza a game. In for one week I rekon then back to the old guy.

BIG FARKING BRYYYZZZAAAA!!!

I hope they play him as the starting ruckman where he is more natural/comfortable and then send Draper forward where he is more capable than Bryza. Keep Draper fresh for his spells in the middle where he can be his explosive best, I’d love watching Sammy go up against the opposition’s number 2 ruckman.

For all thew doom and gloom, the Bryan/Draper duo could be a serious asset for us and a significant future point of difference/advantage.

Just keep them all healthy and we are good for bigs if Reid, Wright, Jones are added.

Hawthorn are currently running their No.3 & No.4 ruckmen, and thats after letting Ceglar go to Geelong.

So happy we get to see Bryan play this round.

We should dominate the middle with Bryan & Draper.

Who knows might even win a game.

Only if one learns how to play forward.

Steady :slightly_smiling_face:

To paraphrase Bryan when Truck told him he was debuting last; ā€œTruck yeah!ā€

Hope he goes well.

Neither of them are overly great up forward. Yet. I think Bryan has the better potential as a forward , fwiw.

its kind of a non negotiable one has to get a forward craft. otherwise, they wont play together much at all

Yep, long term it’ll be tricky to have two rucks who both really only offer something as 80 percent ruckmen.

But Nick has good hands, a good leap and is a much more natural kick. He doesn’t yet have the core strength to hold his position in packs, so he’ll need to learn the timing and positioning to jump over them.

Of course, we saw in the last VFL match that that doesn’t guarantee the umpires will actually pay the mark…

Both Gawn and Jackson kicked 16 goals last year. I don’t know about Bryan as I don’t watch VFL a lot but I reckon Draper is good enough to get around 15 goals with his strong marking (obviously will need to work on his goal kicking first). He’s the player you bomb the ball to.

Most of teams go with a solo ruck and I’m not a fan of going with two rucks unless they’re both guns like Gawn and Jackson, but if Bryan is more like Brodie type, a ruck-midfielder then I’m all for it, but if we go with two rucks, we should go with two talls, not 3 talls, imo.

Good to see him get a game, but it might be a revelation for those who wanted Draper dropped for him

I don’t think either of them would make a reliable key forward but Draper can at least provide that deep bombing target that we seemed enamored with over the last decade, all he needs to do is crash the pack and bring it to ground level which is definitely in his wheelhouse

ā€œDraper’s strong markingā€?

He’s the biggest guy on our list and the only guy on the list he leads for marks per game is Dev Smith, who’s about 5’8ā€

He’s close to the worst mark in the league, pound for pound.

That’s more to do with his positioning than anything. He has strong and big hands and he is capable of taking pack/big marks - he even took a screamer on his debut.

If you’re bombing the ball, you would want to make sure Draper is there.
