Agree i reckon there are better rucks in the state leagues then Bryan imo
He is just about the best ruck in the VFL so your opinion stinks
In the vfl yes but im talking about the wafl, sanfl etc reckon there is some one there whos better
By law of averages, youāre right.
Any chance you can narrow it down to a handful of players who may be better?
At the moment, his VFL game isnāt translating to AFL.
In all honesty, Iām not sure it will. He gets the hit outs. But just doesnāt do as much around the ground.
He looks to be on the same path as Ned Reeves at the moment who was the same a few years back. Dominates hitouts, limited impact elsewhere.
ā ā ā ā no
He had 7 disposals in 40 minutes, if he plays 100 minutes maybe he has 17 and its not such a bad game at all. If you break down Bryan and Darcys stats per minute they were fairly similar.
Really thought he was torched by Scott.
No way he was even close to our worst tall and he could have got valuable experience playing the last quarter & a half.
Let the kid play for the rest of the year
i have to agree. my thinking is that Scott thought he could do without one of his ruckman, and he went with Phillips for the experience (Phillips was better than usual as well). i thought he deserved to be out there more than Weiderman did though.
Yep.
Heās still a bit too light. But needs games pumped into him. Ticked every box in the VFL.
He shows great hands in the VFL. Reads it very very well, chops off at half back, and pushes forward and takes marks there.
21yo, 8 games.
For comparison, Flip has just found consistency at the age of 31.
A lot of Blitzers seemingly need a fast forward button through the part where kids arenāt as big and fit and strong as their opponents.
Iām not a fan of just doubling stats or going per minute. Games and form just doesnāt work that way.
Between Bryanās two AFL games, heās likely played close to 100 minutes.
So thatās 7 kicks, 6 handballs, 3 marks 22 hitouts and a tackle. Thatās at 22 years old.
In 2021 (his B&F year), Sean Darcy had 7 kicks, 9 handballs, 4 marks, 28 hitouts and 3 tackles. Thatās at 23 years old.
For comparison, this year, Ned Reeves has 3 kicks, 5 handballs, 2 marks, 27 hitouts and 3 tackles. Heās 25 years old (which I thought he was younger).
Maybe it is just a fitness thing with Bryan and he isnāt as far away as I thought. Maybe next year is his ābreakoutā if heās given the opportunity to play along side Drapes.
Itās tough to find a current ruckman that I think heāll play like. Heās predominantly good at hitouts. Heās not overly athletic (like Grundy). He doesnāt chase possessions (like Marshall). Heās not a āworkhorseā (like Goldstein). Heās not a bullocking ruck (like Witts or Darcy). Heās not a forward target (like Flynn or Stanley). Maybe he develops into something like Pittonet?
Iāll give him next year. Drapes forward ācraftā is better this year than last year. If he can become the forward ruck and Bryan the starting ruck, this may eliminate the need for Flip and the third tall becomes one of Jones, Weid, Hunter or Voss (if heās given that opportunity).
Iām not expecting that at all from him but he got hands to a lot of marks but couldnāt hold them.
It annoys me with Draper too. Our rucks seem to fumble marks and arenāt clean with them, mind you I think itās a huge issue in the club as a whole. We donāt have too many that I would consider strong marks
Draperās really not a good mark. He used to take 2 marks a game in the VFL, he takes 2 marks a game in the AFL.
Bryan regularly pulls down 8-10 marks in the VFL - I donāt see any reason why he canāt eventually do that in the AFL, heās just a bit light and doesnāt seem to feel at home. As you say, heās in the right spots.
Again, 21yo & 8 games.
Club has to actually back him for 4-5 games.
This kid has shown heās above VFL level. How is he supposed to make the leap/transition to AFL level when he gets brought in for one game every couple of months and gets minimal minutes.
How is he going to develop his AFL craft like that.
Give the kid a proper run in the seniors and fcking play him for more than a quarter.
We got listcloggers running around out there under no selection pressure yet some kids who perform in the VFL get minimal opportunities
From what I saw on the weekend he lacks the intensity for AFL level.
When Phillips was in the ruck we were competitive at stoppage, when Bryan was we lost momentum.
Harsh but Iād rather play others.

He is getting a run, thatās the point, and if itās not an extended one thereās obviously reasons.
Hobbs got held back.
The whole era of āgive the kids a goā is dead unless circumstances like st Kilda mean theyre out of options.
Youre getting a bit Disney Chanel.
Kindly refrain from quoting me in the future. I have no interest in discussing anything with you.
Thanks.

Spot on⦠this is one of our biggest shortfalls at the moment. Even Wright drops too many he should hold.
