#25 - Jaxon Prior

He tries way too hard.

Delist.

Most improved player this year.

Low bar, but still he has a place on the list moving forward.

Maybe - although the surface at Docklands is notoriously slippery, because of the shallow depth of soil with the car park underneath.

But at least he doesn’t forget his passwords.

ESSENDON has opened discussions on a new deal for Jaxon Prior, with the defender being a fixture in the Bombers’ line-up since arriving at the club.

Prior is out of contract at the end of this season but has commenced talks on a one-year extension that would take him through to the end of 2027.

The former Lion has played 15 games this year after 23 last season, seeing him only miss one appearance since arriving at Essendon following five years at Brisbane, where he played 39 games.

The left-footer is the son of former Bombers and Eagles player Michael Prior, who played 90 games across his stints at both clubs.

Prior signing on would take the Bombers’ list of uncontracted players down to 12 ahead of the end of the season. – Callum Twomey

Stay for me. One of the few that has a real 100% crack. Not the worst, until we can draft or recruit better I think a year is fair

Strange that you would offer a one year deal for a player who has played every game since joining the club. There is every chance he could be passed by other players in time, however, he is still a good stop gap if this happens.

Gee, stop mucking around and give him 2 at least

If the club thought Jones was worth 2 years, Prior deserves 6.

But hey if he’s happy to sign the 1 year then all for it.
Blokes only just turned 25, could have plenty of footy left if he keeps improving

Been tough, been reliable, doesn’t get injured, deserves another year at the very least.

He deserves another year

Been one of our most consistent players all year

Probably been our best defender too

The thing I most love about him is he hates to lose a contest, and whenever an opposition player is getting in the face of one of our younger brigade he is in their like a flash helping them out. That is what protecting the youngsters is all about.

It’s his attitude above everything that I really like, and that we need more of from others

Let James Hird decide if he wants him or not.

He is a free agent. Do a sweet deal with another club to pay him a truckload, and let’s see some sweet free agency compensation come our way.

Signed for another year. I’m happy with that

Good. Well earned.
One of the few players I actually think deserved a longer contract.

Yeah I think he has earned another year. Been a lot more convincing this season in the air. Given how little pressure is applied further afield, it leaves the defence badly exposed. Hopefully we get a coach who can remodel our game style and looks to ramp up the pressure all over the ground. It will make our defenders jobs far easier.

Yeah, he’s earned his extension.

This is why it’s important to wait until this part of the season to extend, and not the start of the season… like they did with Blackiston. Absolutely ridiculous.

1 year deal good for him and the club.

He could be a chance of heading to Tassie, just need to offer good $$.

I’ve been harsh on him on the past and have just come to accept that he’s a solid enough role player that won’t become a star so 1 year is fine.

Definitely respect him more after hearing about his work with the recent draftees and how they speak of him, he seems to offer more support and guidance than most of the senior blokes
