#26 Archer May (kick more than two goals)

He actually is lovely - I ran into him at a game and had my Essendon scarf on.

I asked for a photo with him and said “even with the Essendon scarf on”. He just laughed and was happy to chat and take the photo.

I think he plays up the Essendon hatred a bit, but he was one of the few in the media that went easy on us during the saga. He has a lot of mates that are ex Essendon players.

Reminds me of when I met Nathan Buckley when I was at high school. Unfortunately he was an absolutely amazing human despite how he was on field and that he played for that feral mob.

Dont worry noonans tried to take random jabs at me for years, hes losing some vigor in his old age.

Yes, until he got his jaw broken is a coward act.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I think that was his last game ever (besides some charity games)

I’m not a Buckley fan, however I have great respect for him.
He publicly went into bat for James Hird when in the heat of the Saga. Sam Newman and Wayne Carey were the only others I can recall

Ditto Dipper. He said to this day, he’d have beers and good times with Essendon legends too.

With Kevin Walsh?

Newman really went to bat for us when everyone hated us. As did Dermi.

With McMahon May and Gerryn that’s a pretty dam good vfl forward line

Yes Mental Martin cleaned him up. He was saying in the rooms before we went out to play he was going to nut him. In saying that Dermie was throwing a few round before it happened. Never took much for mental to get involved in a fracas.

Was sad really as Derm was helping all the clubs financially. The gate takings were huge

I’d probably draw the line with Dipper.
He might’ve had a beer after some Bomber clashes … but he was a thug onfield.

He would elbow someone gping to get his shout.

Dermott was in the top 5 players of his generation. Completely fearless, an absolute weapon, incredibly gifted skill wise and a great athlete, he could do it all and take a beating. He was a genuine phenom. I never hated him at all. Although I loved to beat him. Sheedy had the upmost respect for him and he felt likewise for us. It was a time of gladiators and he he was one of the absolute greats.

This is straying way off topic but Newman is just a contrarian. Genuine scumbag.

Er…I wouldn’t count on that.

are you intimating noonans made use of a blue pill?

No……actually with TD and Paul VDH at The Harp in East Kew!

Pies fans all salty because we took Archie May.

Some even reckon he will stay with us for 2 seasons and go to the Pies, such is his passion for the club.

I would ask why then didnt Pendles go to the club he barracked for as a kid after 2 seasons at the Pies. (Melbourne)

Sure, maybe, but most likely he will stay with the Dons. In 2 years collingwood will be on the way down, and we will be on the up.

I don’t attach any good will to Sam Newman over that.

He’ll have a rip at anyone in authority, regardless of whether it’s right or wrong.

Particularly as he’s omitted all apostrophes.
