Plus, generally umpires prefer giving votes to players on the winning side, and we’'re not going to have as many wins this year as the dogs or dees. And of course, they much prefer giving votes to established big names, and players who don’t wear red & black.

Think it was 2012. Just tore the first 7 or so games apart. Then injured himself which only got revealed after the season, think it was his collarbone? Was playing with it semi fractured for several months or something

I put $10 on Jobe before the season started at like $16. He actually got close to winning it the season before and after but missed about a month in each which cost him.
Side note why would Sportsbet suspend betting? Surely it’s all automated by an algorithm that just automatically drops the price down one tier if there’s a run on someone?
I thought all those odds were essentially run by one big algorithm/glorified spreadsheet - surely there’s not one bloke with a chalkboard deciding the odds behind the scenes?
I did some work a while ago with Betfair on the horse racing side (just the code that feeds data into those systems, not the actual odds setting systems themselves) and there are a bunch of people with the ability to manually step in on the software. The reason is mostly because there are a bunch of professional bettors out there who are also writing software (which I’ve also done a very small amount of work on) which is designed in part to just be a better algorithm, but also to take advantage of any weird edge cases in the betting companies’ algorithms, and to exploit any major differences in the odds between different companies. Sometimes it’s helpful to just have a person get alerted to some weird behaviour and pull the nope switch.
Oh, and also they’re just paranoid as ■■■■ about the idea that people might have more information than them, and if they get the feeling some group of people knows something important, they’ll err on the side of caution.

Pretty interesting article about it, maybe I even found it on here, about the bird who founded the agency that pioneered the bonus-bet-heavy model. She was CEO, Founder and Chief Mathematician. Basically the model is lure everyone over with bonus bets, ban anyone who takes any money off you, and keep the problem gamblers. Terrible.

If we were a normal club they’d be splitting the 3 and 2 votes every game, but as they are Essendon players they’ll be lucky to scrape in for the 1

They really don’t like loosing either. I have a mathematician friend who has been banned from every online betting agency in the country from playing arbitrage between second place odds across betting agency’s.
Which I think sux as they are basically saying you can only come into our platform if you loose.
