Those 2020 numbers are interesting, arenā€™t they.
It wasnā€™t a case that they didnā€™t play him midfield at all. Rd 6-8, 12, & 15-18 he was in there nearly as much as anyone. Just was clearly seen as behind Stringer as a mid and/or didnā€™t make himself indispensable

I mean, you could argue DP getting a lot fitter this year is somehow linked to this ā€œsuddenā€ change where heā€™s playing both more time on ground and attending more clearances are linked and doing them both more effectively.

If you were a crazy conspiracy theorist, that is.

I know that Oliver v Parish comparison has almost been done to death as much as McGrath v McCluggage, but Oliver has been in the guts since year 1 v the slow build up with Parish.
It will be interesting in 8 years time to see who is held in higher esteem, as there is a chance Oliver could burn out earlier through being exposed to the crash & bang of playing in the guts throughout his whole career so far.
Not many players except maybe Selwood, have had the longevity of playing in the guts effectively for their whole career, most end up playing on the flanks later in their careers as injuries take their toll.
