#3 Paul Chapman

He still does the business, nailed a set shot to get us on the board in the 1st, got a 2nd running onto a Colyer handpass after that fapworthy Cooney kick in the 2nd, and despite nearly losing his feet provided the assist for Colyer’s 2nd that got us within a kick in the last. Had 5 tackles as well and played midfield at times too. I’d rather have him close to goal but Hirdy doesn’t have any issues putting him on the ball so his fitness must be OK. He’s at the right club IMO, having Fletch we know that players can still be of value well into their 30s, others would look at the DOB and discard such players.

Did some very good things, but was uncharacteristically fumbly on Sunday.

Starring BD as highschool sweetheart, now wife.

Reckon he will be enjoying footy, especially as Geelong are now officially ■■■■.

He wouldn’t have any regrets now playing with us. He Coons and BJ will be Bombers for life soon.

Just stumbled into this thread and had been up to here…

Oh dear, things change quickly.

Hopefully they change quickly again.

What rubbish?

If we had a midfield then he would be playing deep forward still kicking goals

True, but in the context of our team, where we are at, hes effectively clogging the best 22. I say that with respect, he has been a great player and has served our club well since he has been with us .

Looked unfit - short of a gallop.  Agree that he should be permanently positioned in forward 1/3 of the ground, either being a target, a crumber, or delivering inside 50.  Has been serviceable in most games, good in a couple early in the season.  Has had a couple of ordinary ones too, more recently.  Will need to bounce back and get back to 'good' level over the next 2 or 3 games.  Otherwise, might be better off giving a kid the chance to be assessed.

Drop him. We recruited him to help us win the flag this year, that won't happen. Drop him and play Dell, Stein, Fantasia etc.

He is a liability at the moment and the problem is i don't think Bomber has the guts to drop him. Either play him in the forward 50 and only in the forward 50 or not at all. Chapman's direct opponent always has a field day off half back/midfield because Chappy dosnt have the legs anymore to apply pressure and run hard defensively. Id rather let Nick Obrien have a go in the side at Chapman's expense as he has shown to be a decent contestant mark and has the engine to run through the midfield.

It kinda reminds me of when we were playing Hird as starting midfield in his last year.  Sure we didn't have anyone better but its an indictment on the list that we were not able to reduce the expectations & load so he could be more of a cameo performer.  Fletch for example is now finally being played as a veteran should - less responsibility.  Hooker & Hurley take the best 2 forwards & Fletch can float & often plays as a lose defender.  In the same vein Chappy should be played as a forward pocket NOT up the ground where his ageing legs are constantly exposed.  We shouldn't need him to be getting kicks off the halfback line or trying to out sprint defenders to get back into fwd 50 because he can't do that anymore.  He should be anchored to the fwd half of the ground & use his smarts & strength to create scores & opportunities.

Take me back to round one when he single handedly destroyed norf

But yeah, very ordinary the last two and a bit months. Cant see him going on next year

Hard call on a champion but hard calls need to be made, there could be so much upside to those other 3 named and we need to give them the opportunity they deserve.

In the dieing moments last night he wasn't leading, just sitting idol right next to his opponent waiting for some miracle crumb.

When the ball was torped into the centre with 30 seconds left he was jogging half the time - http://www.gfycat.com/JampackedAromaticAfricanaugurbuzzard

He looks to always be trying to save himself from an injury, a bit frustrating to watch when we have so many young players dieing to get into the team

Was dissapointed he didn’t get more of it last night. He may be carrying something. Wouldn’t be suprised to see him rested next week

He just had a fkg week off! If we can only play him every second week, why bother

This
Should be used as a backup only now. Play the kids and see what they have got.

unfortunately the last play of the night highlighted it for me. he could barely run at full pace to chase Hawkins down.

for all he brought to the table in the first few rounds, hes been stretched now.

not sure what the terms of the contract extension were, but maybe not in the best 22 next year.

Well to tell you the truth it would be worth it if he could come in every other week and play like he did in his first month or so.

However chances are high he is simply coming to the end and his body doesn't allow him to do the things he used to.

What about the other reason we drafted him, to teach the kids?

Has that been successful? Can we extract more of that?

At this stage of his career he has to be a specialist forward pocket or nothing.
