Merrett should have been the clear winner

Merret and Redman went in as favorites.

Yeah, I have never seen a player get his hands cleanly to as many balls as Wright does, then subsequently drop it.

Its so bizarre.

Wright is a perfectly good forward ruck option. He can kick goals and competes ok when he goes into the middle.

He’s probably not a number one forward, question whether he’s a number two forward in a team that would compete for flags.

Coaches have to work out whether they prefer Draper and Bryan, which means you get ruck dominance but lose out on some scoring, Draper and Wright, which means you get scoring power but miss out on ruck dominance, or all three which means the team looks like a pack of lumbering dinosaurs but get aerial dominance.

Probably a horses for courses question.

I think it likely Wright gets first crack as KF/Ruck round 1. From there it will be form dependant, at least Scott has shown he is willing to drop him. He obviously has his issues, however he rarely gets outmarked and perhaps Kako can operate better under his feet than others have done. I see him primarily competing with Bryan for a position.

Not if you dont have your eyes open, and can’t handle a slight nudge

It may shock people, but I will wait for Caddy to actually do something in the AFL before blowing my load everywhere.

We have had enough preseason false messiah’s for me to be cautious.

I reckon draper could have a 30 goal season on on 50/30/20 fwd/ruck/bench split

I think he’s a better contested mark and vastly more dynamic than wright. It’s a shame he can’t kick like wright

Yeah… we’d probably be trading a boring 45 goals 25 behinds with minimal presence or defensive pressure for 25 goals 45 behinds, a few out on the fulls, some laughs, some joy, some more grey hairs, a (worse) drinking problem, some genuine presence and a little bit of defensive pressure.

I’d hate to be a coach

Seems like we have loaded the list up on Forward/Ruck options, probably the least required positional need in modern day footy, a very Essendon thing to do.

Not enough Courtney Johns and Scott Gumbeton

Ye’d also get ruck development time for Brian, potentially boost draper’s fa value and make 2mp ask for a trade

Put him on ball

New midfielder evolution

For that, he’d have to have 100 shots on goal approx. 5 a game?
