#30 - Nate Caddy - thru 2028

He’s not worth a cold pie if he can’t kick goals.

He’s got a bit of an issue at the moment with his set shot kicking but he’s still having an impact. Give him a bit of time to sort it out. Not every player can come in an slot set shot bombs like… Archer May

The bloke is 12 years old and involved heavily in the majority of every game he plays.

The kicking will come with persistence, some technique work and the eventual “click”.

The latter being the most important.

I remember a certain S. Lucas spraying a lot early in his career.

Also late, but my point stands.

Ease up.

Plenty of time to develop before our 2035 flag tilt

Only upwards from here.

Your memory is better than mine, I don’t remember Lucas missing regularly at any point in his career.

In fact he’ll be selling gold numbered guernseys at his record breaking game at about 30yo

Kicking yips like Joe

Maybe it’s worse.

But I definitely recall at least a terrible patch of goalkicking somewhere.

More specific to some recent arguments, a significant proportion of Essendon “fans” hated on early Lucas.

Really?? My earliest memory of Lucas was getting praised on a Sunday footy show for playing well, with a young Blumfield. Just another group of young players that would go onto winning a premiership, you know the usual thing that happened in the 90’s growing up.

I’m not sure what to think of those stats, I’m not saying anyone is right or wrong just saying I don’t remember Lucas being a bad shot at goal.

not sure if it was goal kicking related, but i believe it was, as well as just general poor form, but his first stint at being moved to CHB during 03/04 was the only period i can remember. he played alright down back and gave us some decent drive for the year, just the monster forwards like brisbanes etc would towel him up, so he was eventually moved back to the forwardline.

early day I reckon his struggles with goal kicking were more related to him attempting to have a shot at goal anytime he was inside 60 meters.

Lies. He never handballed 835 times.

Some decent drive?

Don’t be stingy with the mayo bro, he won the Crichton medal from CHB

I recall his days as resident whipping boy on Bombertalk.

He quietly went about being one of our best players in our best period.

I have enormous admiration for his career. Especially the late “WTAF IS THAT ELBOW” period.

In his last 5 seasons he was accurate, but before that he kicked nearly as many point as goals and a numbers out of bounds.

Great player, and if Caddy can learn from him !!!

???

He is our leading goal kicker. On track for 40. Has kicked 4 less than Treacy and 2 less than Charlie Curnow. Playing in a team that’s won one of the last 24.

Of all of the plentiful issues at the Essendon football club, Nate Caddy is not one.

Just out of interest how many goals to points did Gary Ablett Snr kick. Not going to google it but my memory says around 50/50 and I’d say for the same reason as Lucas.
