Welcome Zach. Very pleased to have him on board. Tall, athletic, can mark, can kick.

People knocking this pick should just give up and follow a new sport. Our backline will be ZZ tops.

Pick No.10: Zach Reid

Classy key defender Zach Reid lands at the Dons with pick No.10.

Essendon has welcomed classy key defender Zach Reid in the 2020 NAB AFL Draft.

Hailing from Leongatha, the Gippsland Power talent was secured via pick No.10 - the club’s third selection.

When you eye off players with raw potential and a huge ceiling, it’s hard to look past the two-metre Reid.

Boasting terrific skills, athleticism, aerial prowess and footy smarts, Reid presents as a well-rounded player who shines as a stopper or half-back.

He averaged four marks a game in last year’s NAB League as a bottom-ager, with some draft experts suggesting his growth and development in a normal 2020 season may have shot him into top-five calculations.

Reid’s talents aren’t just limited to defence, too, with the 18-year-old showing his capabilities as a forward and pinch-hitting ruckman.

General manager of list and recruiting Adrian Dodoro said he held Reid in high regard.

“He was the best player available in our opinion at the time,” Dodoro said.

"We set out in this draft to make sure that the spine of the club was going to be in shape for the next 10 years.

"He’s a fabulous player. He’s got a lot of Dustin Fletcher about him, and some say (Harris) Andrews from the Brisbane Lions also.

“The good thing about (No.8 pick) Cox and Reid is that they’re magnificent athletes. They’ve got unbelievable running capacity and they kick the ball well.”

ZACH REID AT A GLANCE:

Position: Key defender/utility
Team: Gippsland Power/Victoria
Height: 202cm
Weight: 83kg
DOB: March 2, 2002
Key strengths: Vertical leap, aerial ability, skills
Key stat: Averaged 75 per cent kicking efficiency in 2019 NAB League

This news is brought to you by Orchard HRO , the club’s official recruitment and list management partner.

I think with the attributes of Cox and Reid, they could play flanks while developing. Move well and good kicks.

Not a lot of talk about this guy compared to Cox & Perkins, but I am quietly confident that he will be the best of the bunch.

Harris Andrews 2.0 seems possible. Just needs a year to put on enough size.

Both outstanding athletically and with good tanks too.

Great choices.

Truck’s instructions to Zach before the game… “Zach back and crack. Got it?”

Do you have inside info on Essendon changing its policy on keeping on duds? Not saying any of these will be but if your premise is correct if half will be busts, we’ll be doing unusually well if those are NOT still around by 2025.

Don’t think that’s in his nature, otherwise why would he keep churning out the same absolute bullshit 200 times a day. Or does it just seem like 200?

you can’t help yourself can you.

I’ve defended you in the past from the abuse and online bullying you receive (which is still unnecessary and people really should know better) but you really don’t help yourself do you?

I can tell you are passionate but maybe take a week or so away from here to get some perspective.

There is something dodgy going on with the published heights of Reid and Cox. Draft profiles claim there is a mere 2 cm difference between them, but take a look of any picture of them together and Reid is more, much more than 2 cm taller, perhaps 6 + cm. What is going on?

Ones on the Grass, the other not?

Both on the grass, the standing variety that is.
Look at a picture of the two of them together with Perky.

Reid wears elevator shoes to make him look tall ?

Yeah, I did see the same pic, & thought the same thing.

Think you all gotta relax on Nino. He is his own person and allowed his say. All he said was meh, he wasnt abusive or rude.

He probably regrets it now too, but ya’ll need to chill out.

I find myself constantly disagreeing with everything Nino says, but he is allowed his say.

His comment was clumsy and probably not necessary, and id rather we all got around Reid and backed him in, but it cant just be an echo chamber in here.

I don’t think we will see him for a year or two at afl level, unless it’s for a taste. And big blokes like this are better off growing into there body’s first.

Zerk is now as physically ready, I still have hope for him and he will be played ahead of Reid.

No doubt that Reid is much more talented though.
