We’re drafting these guys on the assumption that probably over half of them will bust. Because more than half of ALL draftees are busts, talls can be particularly susceptible, and you’d expect blokes taken after a year of exactly zero footy would be even more so.

The trick won’t be fitting them into our all-conquering 2025 side, we’ll be doing very well if half of them are still around by then. The trick will be finding room for them in the VFL side over the next 2 years, so we can actually get some exposed form and experience into them so we can work out sufficiently early and accurately which ~60% of them are the busts, so we can move on.

Do you have inside info on Essendon changing its policy on keeping on duds? Not saying any of these will be but if your premise is correct if half will be busts, we’ll be doing unusually well if those are NOT still around by 2025.

Gumby may also be a salient example that whilst you think you’ve drafted a replacement for a long term key position player , it doesn’t always (often?) work out. For various reasons.

Reid might be an absolute weapon with his kicking disposal, let alone if he can shut down the future duels with the King’s etc.

As I’ve said, I think in isolation the first three kids we took look very promising indeed. A lot depends on existing “smalls” like Ham, Parish etc taking another step in terms of list balance.

Oh absolutely. I’d have put money on Pears having a long career, and really rated Darcy Daniher. All three cut down by injury. Its why I was saying in the draft thread, take the young, unproven talls, apply a 50% failure rate.
