Former #32 Travis Colyer

Trav will kill them this year. The criticism of him in here was harsh IMV.

He is a touch player (at his pace he needs to be) and he only arrived as a player after building over a number of years. I’m not surprised that his touch wasn’t there this year - a number of returning players said the game had gotten quicker. That and we now have a couple of other quick players so the side wasn’t looking to use trav as the linebreaker like before (as he was the only linebreaker we had).

So really, if we trade him, where are we at with our quicks?

Fantasia, McKenna and Tippa are locks. I think at his best Trav is a better player than Saad, plus Trav runs more through the mid than Tippa, Fantasia and Saad so I’d probably keep him.

Trav was a match winner when we didnt have enough leg speed. We now specialise in little quick guys. Some of who can kick a footy.

Also, it only takes and injury or two and our side will suffer… We have every year like this one being so lucky with injuries.

There was nothing wrong with Travs kicking before his year off.

Yep Rawlings said they would love a big bodied inside midfielder with pace, but they are rare as Hens teeth. He seemed quite keen at what he could get at the draft.

The real issue for me is he only really found his kicking and touch for half a season. Other than that he has always been an almost player. Love his leg speed but he needs consistency with his kicking and finishing.

Trav is a completely different player to Saad. However you bring Saad into the team and all of a sudden McGrath is freed up to push up onto a wing. That means he takes Travs spot. That doesn’t even consider Smith coming in.

Personally I think our leg speed issue is a thing of past years. Having quick players with good kicks will completely make it disappear. Unfortunately I haven’t seen Trav do this consistently for long enough to show he is the answer. Therefore if the offer is right I would be happy to part ways.

Great place for an investment property.

If the Eagles are keen on Colyer and we winkle a 2nd round pick from them, would the following work?

Colyer to WCE for Pick 30
Picks 28 and 30 to GCS for Saad and Pick 19
Pick 19 to GWS for Smith
Pick 11 to WB for Stringer

Gain: Saad, Stringer, Smith
Lose: Picks 11, 28, Colyer

Then whatever happens with Francis, if one of the SA clubs decide to swoop in late and meet our valuation, then we can worry about it at the death knell…

I don’t think that’s the full picture, he took a good few years to get to that point, he slid back with the year off.

I’ve heard a future pick. I reckon if it happens, we’re offloading a future second for smith or saad this year

He played 2/3 brilliant games this year.
Has massive upside if he could get back to 2015 form.
But Smith is clearly a more consistent upgrade on Colyer.
And maybe that’s how it’s being sold to Trav so he can think about the Eagles.
Hope he takes up the offer and hope Essendon get pick 30.
Otherwise, he’s likely to be kept on the list (for depth?)
Looks like Essendon are putting names out there for clubs to consider

WC future 2nd would be expected to be lower than ours or their current so have more value. They should drop down ladder with Mitchell and Priddis done, and various others in final year.

Hopefully it’s that which we gaining.

Or alternatively people in the media are throwing random trade scenarios out there to try and generate some interest in what so far is a tedious few days of “trading”.

That wouldn’t work.

That effectively puts Saad’s worth at pick ~45

I would go.

Pick 11 & Pick 46 for Stringer and Pick 26
Pick 26 to GWS for Smith
Colyer to WCE for pick 30
Pick 30 to GC for Saad

IN: Stringer, Saad, Smith
OUT: Pick 11, Pick 46 and Colyer

I really am puzzled by those wanting to put Colyer up for trade, if there is a market for 3rd tall types, they are what we should be putting on offer if any, like Francis are open to a change.

Colyer wasn’t dropped this year because he offered pace and has a tank, we know he can play better and if we have more depth, he can fight for his spot, but the line will still be a short one.

In the third tall department:

Goddard, Stewart, Gleeson, Ambrose, Brown, Laverde, Begley, Ridley, Langford, Francis, Dea, Smack. We have 12 players who can play a third tall in defence or attack with only 3 or 4 in the side and with a couple who could play mid. Allowing for some depth, at least 4 of these players are relatively in excess compared to other types of players.

Trav will be an enormous asset to the team next year

Rusty as hell but when he gets going he’s going to burn teams to the ground

I don’t get why people are so adverse to trading him.

Like i’ve said previously, he had a purple patch of about 15 weeks. prior to that there were questions about whether he’d even be kept on past 2014.

That form is now 2 years old.
He’s not a player like say a hird who can miss large chunks of training and foot in general and just resume at a certain level

his disposal is something that is going to need to be a constant training mechanism for him to even be remotely useful on the 2 hours it matters most, and maybe it’s not something he can or is willing to do anymore.

It’s alot to take on just faith that “he’ll get back to his best”. like i said his best only lasted 15 odd weeks 2 years ago.
and the 3 players he’d be helping get in all have pace, so it’s not as if we are losing out on his biggest asset.

If trav continues on this years formline, then it’s a waste keeping him, cos speed with fumbling and shocking kicking is not what we need, and i know people want the warm fuzzies cos he’s a suspended player we put in this position. I get it but you can’t have it all one way.
you can’t have success while relying on so much sentiment.

On his current form no other club would want him anyway.

To state that the form is 2 years old when we know he had an unfair suspension is silly. He’s a match winner at his best and that’s why people are reluctant to trade.
I’m not dead set against trading but he could end up being a really important player if / if not we trade.
