#33 Alwyn Davey Jnr

the aim would be to have him up the ground terrorising into the f50.

This kid speaks with such confidence and loves being the centre of attention. He just knows he belongs there. I like his extrovert personality.

What was his aerial ability profile? He has been pretty courageous and positions well.

That first mark in the highlights was Wanganeen-like, twisting in the air as he clunked it.

He doesn’t really leap but is just very solid mark overhead

He’s our new Mark Mercuri.

Unfortunately (after reading that) he’s going to be playing forward of centre for a while though isn’t he, hopefully he can improve that aspect to his game. Almost kicked 2 amazing goals within his first 4-5 possessions.

Cannot wait to see the Davey debut all over again when Jayden is ready!

That just gets a like!! Great video! I particularly enjoyed watching Walla in the team song. He looked really happy too.

I still can’t believe Alwyn slipped to pick 45…

Excellent. Some very visible leadership in there from Hep too.

Why do you hate Tex so much?
What has he ever done to you?

It’s an interesting wrinkle because his field kicking and technique looks pretty clinical but he visibly tightened up when going for goal I though. Reps and sports psyche should sort it out pretty quick i reckon.

On the endurance front I was impressed by his defensive work rate. Lead all players for total sprints and repeat sprints on the weekend and his pressure act numbers were really good

how many times do juniors shift positions once they get to senior level? jye menzie was literally just on scooters podcast saying he was a inside mid at juniors

zero reason why davey cant become a forward hakf weapon, or even a quality small forward

It a really damaging wing/half back

Just wondering…is the Alwyn Davey to Alwyn Jnr the shortest time period between father and son?

No.

Gary Ablett Sr retired in 1997 (although, played his last game in 1996) and Gary Ablett Jr started in 2002. I don’t know if that is the shortest, but it is shorter than the decade between Alwyn (2013) and son (2023).

Nah I reckon that is Emperor Xianwen of China who had a baby boy at age 13 and abdicated the throne at 17, leaving the 4yo in charge

Think Jobe came to play 2003 , 9 years after Tim finished in 1994.

Alwyn finished 2013, Junior started 2023.

Tadpole has certainly got a burst of speed but I was also impressed with how he also just glides over the ground covering a bit of distance effortlessly. Just what you need from small pressure forwards, they are required to do a lot of ‘unrewarded’ running, covering marks, filling holes etc.

Pretty much every player who’s good enough to be drafted (and who isn’t a tall) plays mid at juniors. If you’re coaching them, you want them to be near the ball, and that means the midfield. You only start to see some positional differentiation once they’re playing in u18s, or TAC Cup (or whatever it’s called now)
