Hobbs and Perkins cracked in from day one, but yes, soft is a harsh word. It’s just we already have Martin and Jones (and arguably Weideman too) who are also not physical and it’s not unfair to say we’re a soft team. If they can work on that, we’ll be better for it. I doubt it but as long as he uses his speed, it won’t matter too much. The way he stands with the ball reminds me a bit of Pendlebury, he has time on his hand.
Some Blitzers are insane. Him in the general vicinity was causing their players to rush kicks and panic, Davey was bloody awesome in his first game!
If he coverts those chances he kicks 4 goals. He had 1 on the run from 40m fall short, 1 running into goal didn’t score, 1 on the boundary 40m out for some reason he choose not to shoot (despite nailing them in the pre game) and then he kicked his 1 goal. 1 could have been 4.
He may lack physicality but he’s a first year player. He doesn’t lack heart and as for aggression he was chasing as hard as anyone out there and was a big reason why Hawks got no run off half back. His was a very good debut.
Basing this off one game but seems to have that implied presence his dad had early Bon and Cyril had.
You know he’s around, but you aren’t sure how far away he is so you get rid of the ball that little bit earlier than you need to.
Chased hard today. Don’t know if showed on tv, but was always running 20-30 meters to chase people.
He’s going to face some competition. Menzie and his brother both did well, Wanganeen, Snelling & Guelfi were in the VFL and Munkara will also presumably start pushing! Walla was the sub and got a goal and should only get better.
We’ve gone from small forward being a weakness to possibly a strength!
I don’t really rate Guelfi as a small forward, more as a flanker who runs to the wings. Munkara probably plays like a small but in reality is more medium-tall height.
Having J Davey and Menzie deep forward, A Davey more in the wings/flanks with Tippa roaming makes a good set of smalls.
Finishing at goal has been one of Alwyns issues since juniors, absolutely not the case for Jayden though who really loves a snag and can kick them from so many different avenues. Keen to see Alwyn play higher up the ground once his endurance is stronger as that’s where he would have the best impact.
