For me, the miss was the back end of the 2020 draft taking Eyre and Brand when we clearly needed smalls.

We had already taken a bunch of talls in 2019, traded in Wright, and used 2 firsts on Cox and Reid. No need to take Eyre and Brand as well.

Yep I agree. Terrible decision taking them. Unbalanced our list for a couple of years too

Jayden does it too, ive seen him in the VFL do the exact same thing.

They will hopefully grow out of it the more they play.
Alwyn needs a spell in the two’s atm.

Yep, not weighting them off because they have elite speed, but they need to get tougher to play AFL footy

They will get tougher as they get older and their bodies mature.
Just a question of how much.

atm Davey (unfortunately) reminds me of the rehab patients at work you know are destined for a nursing home, but their family insists on them staying in rehab because this week they went from walking 4m to 5m and only ā– ā– ā– ā–  themselves 5 times.

One good thing regarding Jnr Davey is he is actually getting better every game. Albeit very slowly. May as well just stick with it until his brother, Menzie or Tex start performing.

If Davey gets dropped this week I would look at getting a block of 3-4 matches as a defender. Train and play VFL as a defender might help using his body, nullify an opponent and work of that by beating his man. This will also help him learn how to enter and exit contests using his body which seems to be an area that he skirts around.

Is he though?

We have literally played the 2 worst teams the past 2 weeks and he has done squat!

Thanks Dudoro

in my very limited experience coaching teams l have found that you can’t hide players in defence. He isn’t going to become better by putting him in an area of the ground where he must be accountable for an opponent.

I’m not suggesting hiding, I’m suggesting him getting exposed to a different position to learn how to defend an opponent something he hasn’t done as an under ager. He might see the game better when it’s in front of him as well.
As a small forward he is either too high up not impacting or he isn’t at the full of the contest.

Hiding him in the defence was my term, l acknowledge it was not your suggestion. My point is, putting him in defence just won’t work. He won’t impact play, just as he won’t impact contests and he wants to avoid contact.

VFL is different to AFL level though, Foley had 19 disposals and kicked a goal last week at half back.

No reason that Alwyn couldnt get 20 disposals at half back in the VFL.
Maybe send Lual forward see if he can use his pace and just attack the footy and Weideman forward too now we have lost our VFL key forward to the tigers…

Almost sounds similar to Martins move except in the VFL.

Its a real wonder what Brad see’s in Alwyn to continue playing him. People say he’s fast but he doesn’t look overly quick, he’s afraid of the contest, doesn’t get much of the footy and is consistently in the wrong position at forward entries.

Its like Weiderman all over again. Perhaps this is Brad’s way of officially drawing a line through a bloke…give them an extended run to see if they work on/fix their faults.

Yeah but the weed wasn’t getting a goal a game

I wonder if it’s not so much being afraid of contact as thinking that it’s better to keep on the outside where he has a better chance of impacting.

Or maybe following instructions.

A Davey on the outside if loose ball comes out can break away.

Heppell or Hobbs not so much.
