#35 Matt Guelfi - now til 2024!

We’ve missed him a lot - can’t wait to see him back.

Snelling, Guelfi, Tippa, Menzies makes a pretty high pressure forward line.

I wondered if Bryan might be the sub, if he isn’t a late injury replacement, so we can shift to 2 rucks if needed, or play Draper and Bryan for a half each.

How goods this guy been since he came back
Love the pressure he brings

Relieved he is back.

Played an epic last quarter. It was massive in the context of us winning tonight.

Guelf is the man when it matters.

Now provides the pressure that was Snelling’s trademark. Continuing to evolve as a player.

He gets the 1% moniker, and yes he does the 1%s really well. But he’s a lot more than that and it sells him short to think that’s all he is. He’s a smart footballer who reads the play very well.

for those that don’t understand the reference, the “Gorillas” had a formidable midfield in the thirties. That decade was Tarzan’s heyday, but even he couldn’t compete with Hayden Bunton and Wilfred “Chicken” Smallhorn who won FOUR Brownlows between them.

I’ve never thought he was all that similar to Snelling.

Albeit sometimes fighting for the one spot.

Too instinctive a footy player to do that completely selfless role.
Snelling really is a fantastic tackler and pressurer (better than Guelf), a calm finisher, and not much else. Guelfi’s a ball winner, and has some creativity with the ball.
I wouldn’t hate having a look at Guelf as a mid at some point.

He was an inside mid at U18 level. But I don’t personally see it at AFL.

Was this in response to my post as I didn’t mention Snelling?

anyhoo, I do agree that Snelling and Guelfi are different types.
