No one can lay claim to that.

Great news. Another club would have snapped him up if we didn’t. Tough, hard working, versatile player. Deserves a spot in our best 22 at the moment.

Rapt that he’s staying, should be one of the first picked every week, such a good role player and gives everything. Would’ve liked an extra year though.

Good news. I reckon he is the perfect 18th to 23rd man. Versatile, disciplined, tough. Will bob up and play a role forward, back or midfield - whatever is needed by the team. If he is in the bottom few players in your team, you are doing well.

Wtf?

If either club wanted him they could have offered him 2 or 3 years on slightly improved coin and he would have taken it.

The fact that he’s signed for 1 with us shows that he had no takers elsewhere or very modest offers, similar to Lavs last year (was it?)

Really happy with this outcome. Would have been even happier if it was for two years. He is comfortably in the best 12-25 bracket. I like his role as a defensive forward. Even if he isn’t kicking goals, he always brings pressure.

Hmmm

Draper
Parish
Zach
Rids
Lav
2mp
Langers
String
Red Dog
Shiel
Walla
Hind
Hep
Pidge
Snelling

One of the first picked after those guys maybe?

MONEY(DISCO)BALLLLL!
Wonder what this means for Clarke - I feel we should keep him on the rookie list (still young and provides cover if we have injuries + if he improves, he’s welcome to put pressure on the other regulars)

Guelfi = Blue Collar = Keep

l would keep Clarke.
He has filled a role, and taken huge strides.
His kicking is vastly better than he is given credit for on here.

Good news that he’s staying, I don’t mind him in the side.
Hard to understand why he was getting pushed out for Zaka’s return.

I think this means Zaka is gone. To me, Rutten was obviously seeing who offered more value.

HARD-TACKLING BOMBER EARN ANOTHER YEAR

Matt Guelfi has received the 24th birthday present he was hoping for – a new one-year deal to stay with the Bombers off the back of his most impressive AFL season.

Guelfi, who celebrated his birthday last Saturday, has played a career-best 18 games this season in a variety of roles as Essendon has put in the finals frame with one game to go.

The former Claremont utility has thrived under Ben Rutten and is in line to play in his first final after four seasons at the club, pending a victory over Collingwood this week.

Matt Guelfi has re-signed with the Bombers.

Matt Guelfi has re-signed with the Bombers.

Essendon general manager of list management and recruiting Adrian Dodoro said the decision to offer Guelfi a contract for 2022 was a reward for his determination and effort.

“He came to us at the end of 2017 as a mature draftee and he’s been able to make an immediate impact in his time at the club,” Dodoro said.

“We really rate Matt’s effort and intensity around the contest, and we know he’s a player who’s really driven to get the best out of himself.

“We look forward to seeing Matt’s growth over the off-season and into next year.

Think he has potential to be best 22 if can stay consistent.

rckn he adds a lot

I’m shocked that Guelfi is just a year by year player. He deserves more IMO.

Very happy he’s extended his contract for another year. I would have preferred 2 but so be it!! Very useful player who always gives 100%. I know he’s not the most talented but having someone who you know always will give supreme effort makes being a Bomber a little easier!!

True Story:

Little miss hambo (who’s not so little anymore) asked me the other day, “Who’s Kyle Langford? Is he an Essendon footballer?”
me: “Yeah, why do you ask?”
LMH: he just pinged (or whatever the match term is) on (insert name of young peoples dating app)
me: “lol”
LMH: “I don’t want to be a WAG. I’m only on there for Matt Guelfi. He’s Hot!”
