Max Holmes is the one we’re trying to mimic Martin into.
Moved into the backline, is smashing it, but he does have help coming out of that Geelong backline, so he doesn’t have the volume of possessions that Martin has.
A few times he’s thrown into the middle at a CBA which I think would be great for Martin and playing in the backline would allow him to improve his defensive positioning.

Holmes is a good shout, but he’s actually been far more involved in CBAs recently - 69% the last couple weeks

Think a few on here were talking about Martin as a possible CBA player when he first started, if that’s where he ends up we’d be better for it

This year, Martin is averaging 4.6 score involvements a game, but 5.8 turnovers. So he is -1.2 overall

In all of his previous years he has had a positive score involvement to turnover ratio

you can’t assume that each of his turnovers results in a score though.
we average 67 turnovers a game and on average we conceded 50 points a game on turnover. let’s call that 7.8 for the sake of the exercise so 15 scoring shots generated from 67 turnovers so around 20 % of our turnovers result in a score against.

i can’t tell you whether that holds for martin but my guess is it’s around 2 or 3 of his 6 turnovers which cost us scores against on average. so overall his contribution is clearly positive and that’s before you consider his defensive impact - intercepts, ground ball gets inside defensive 50, spoils etc.

he is having a couple of bad turnovers each game (like every attacking half back in the league) but it’s being wildly over blown IMO.

his turnover numbers are not terribly different to guys playing his position

look at all the 'fake good kicks’ on that list (list is sorted by med defender - average coaches votes per game)

tis a hard one to judge, cos if your direct turnover doesn’t result in a score, but it results in the ball being camped in your def 50 cos of said turnover , and then they score a couple of mins later, it’s not going to show up on any list is it ?
