As unbelievable as Martin’s debut was, Rachele just kicked 5 goals to almost drag Adelaide over the line himself.
Could go either way. Both extremely deserving.

AFL and Gil love Essendon, Martin will get it for sure
It’s like when we picked Parish over Oliver.
Daicos will still get it cause he is daicos
how did jesus, i mean jason go?
13 disposals and a goal. At least two Brownlow votes if you only listened to the commentators rather than using your eyes.
Rachiele gets it clearly. 5 goals in high intensity game to the wire. Martin 5 goals with 4 coming from 20 minutes into the 3rd, when it was lower intensity junk time.
Statistically great debut by Martin, but Rachiele should get it clearly.
I agree that 5 goals in a close game is impressive, but Nick’s stats still hold up well against Rachele.
Could go either way.
Fingers crossed for the lad. That was some performance. He has a fair bit of power in his kicks. Dev would have missed some of those.
He’ll get it.
Absolutely every day of the week. Most underrated misunderstood player at Essendon.
Zero on flash, max on output & team things.
No Hollywood from him. Just old fashion hard work. The kind that every team needs to win football games
Merret & Parish dominated possession in the 4th as well. Their stats hold up against the Cats players so they should be in the running for brownlow votes.
Rachiele’s performance well above Martins and if it was the other way round every one in here would be screaming junk time goals.
Not denigrating Martin’s performance, he took his chances when the pressure was off, but too many rose colored glasses in here. Not all 5 goal performances are alike.
I think what impressed me about the goals is that they were all crafty, somewhat difficult goals to kick, and he nailed them all with utter confidence.
He obviously has goal nous, is clean with his kicking otherwise, and works hard at the contest. I suspect clubs will put a bit more time into him and his output will drop off, but the tools seem to be there.
I have high hopes he can be a very good contributor to our forward/ midfield rotation.
Doesn’t even have a profile photo on the AFL website Coleman medal list.
Can’t man up on what you can’t see.
As an aside, Baldwin does some nice things in the Nic Martin high lights vid. He brings the ball to ground and lays a great tackle.
Also reckon Martin could’ve kicked more - he was ignored a couple of times as a forward hit up option.
I think that Nic also might be penalised for making it look too easy, the level of composure he showed was remarkable.
He also was a 4 quarter performer with 6, 8,7 and 6 disposals for each quarter compared to Rachele’s 1, 3, 5 and 5.
The thing which makes Martin much more impressive in my mind is that he spent 70% of the game in the defensive half, compared to Rachele being more a pure forward with 76% in the forward half.
5 goals from a predominantly defensive half midfielder in a well beaten side compared to 5 goals for a true forward in a competitive side…
I rest my case.
Buckley saying again he reminds him of pendlebury which is big praise.
when he is going to get the award, why hasn’t he got the award yet- when will he be getting the award. So please. The award.
