I think that’s where I’m most pleased of our recent list strategy. Take lots of swings in the 2nd-4th rounds in a deep draft, then set ourselves up with multiple picks at the top end in years where the talent pool doesn’t bat as deep.
I deliberately had my son play at South Morang, which was further way than Epping where we used to live, prior to him now playing for Yarrambat. No way was he going to wear a ■■■■ Carlton jumper at Epping
So in other words, top 5?
Waiting for the narrative to arrive on this photo…
Top 10 pick key position forward gets out-marked by small midfielder taken in the 70s.
The next ‘messiah’ high end talent just sits behind and watches it all happen.
Also…
Johnson closed his eyes when the ball hit his hands.
He’ll be a bust.
Kako never blinks in all 4 frames though.
Also Kako only 2 inches shorter than Caddy
Shiel replacement? Running HB with much better delivery.
I believe Johnson wont play seniors for at last 6-8 weeks… maybe more. You have to factor an 18 year old not being able to do much weights due to shoulder surgery. I could tell some body work on Saturday looked as if he needed a few months to get some further strength. To be however BOG with zero pre season is so promising. Seniors will happen at some point and may stay there for sometime when he does.
On the Wing ?
Sounds like a similar progression to Roberts last year. He was a later pick and surprised.
I was hoping Johnson would be used more off half back to add some depth there, but if he’s good enough to move straight into the VFL midfield then that’s good too. Will be hard to break into AFl side as a midfielder though.
Yeh with Shiel age 31… his opening is through that door
Think I’d rather have Roberts and Johnson groomed for the backline, we need leaders and other with poise and skill in the backline and both of these guys are smart, skilled, disciplined and seem to have the tools to defend space and the man.
We need to focus on elite midfielders either via draft or recruitment and not get stuck into the trap of trying to turn good flankers into onballers.
Even though he is the oldest player in our best 23, Sheil is younger than 1/3 of the players in the Geelong Best 23. They go OK.
But he has been fragile over the last couple of years so Zak might get to debut earlier than when Shiel leaves the club.
As opposed to it as I was last year. He better get 15 games in for the F/S access, those are some amazing bloodlines
feels a bit like horse breeding
He would be a Smokey to get to 250 games as well, needs a good season and another 1 year contract.
Shiel would make an amazing sub now that he is a multi positional player on top of being the most experienced player on the list outside the dinosaur ruckman
Disagree. Shiel has proven that he is no good as sub.
