#41 Saad El-Hawli - thru 2025

I don’t mind Cornes as a commentators during matches. He’s pretty sharp footy wise and really good at picking up on things. As a “personality” he’s sub human.

Yeah you can add Bachar Houli to that list

Cornes wasn’t too bad, helped with us winning.

Someone willing to run, take on the game, try the hard pass that is creative. He’s precisely what Hawthorn have in spades, guys who are willing to push their creativity and skills to the limit.

Give him more game time, give him a regular role, and see where it takes us.

I might also suggest that in the next 5-10 years middle eastern players are going to overtake indigenous players for numbers in the AFL.

High footy IQ moment from Roberts there. He could have got to that ball but pulled out realizing Seh had the run at it heading the right way. Plenty of other Essington players would have run into Seh there trying to pick it up themselves

Good work from the whole chain of players there. Bryan bustled and bodied his way for the tap, El Hawli (and please can the commentators learn to pronounce his name correctly) great run, carry and feint, excellent hand speed from Kako and beautiful finish from Martin. It’s exciting to see the youngsters taking it on even if it won’t always end so sweetly.

It would have to be it cleanest end to end transition goal of the year (if not it only one to date)

How do you pronounce it correctly? I thought it was fairly straightforward, but maybe I’m wrong.

Side note: Why do the commentators keep pronouncing Durham as ‘Dahrem’??

I don’t know, ALL the commentators call him Al Hooley. El Hawli looks a fairly easy name to pronounce to me.

It wouldn’t be hard to ask the players, when they start becoming regulars at AFL level at the very least, how to pronounce their name correctly. Surely that’s part of the commentators’ job.

Yep remember BT asking Orazio Fantasia how to pronounce his last name
Fanta-sia

It didn’t last long though as he preferred the way he’d been calling it.

Yes, ‘sigh’.
We should all remember, it’s not about the players, it’s all about them.

Saw Saad watching vfl from the club rooms with Langers and a couple of other. I didn’t realise he went down to the bench as well.

Back in the east end of London its a silent th if your name is Smiff.

That is a guy fully invested in the club and his fellow players. Great to see.

Can be viewed on in multiple ways.
There as much chance that tempting food snacks and drinks were up stairs where any players were hanging about, so it was easier to sit through Ramadan fasting down on the ground.

Or he could have been at home on his couch rather than showing up to the ground.
