#42 - Jayden Nguyen

Understood, I’m going on highlights purely and he seems very thoughtful ball in hand, considers the switch and can make the pass. They are just highlights though. He seemed to be all over the ground also and a pretty determined clearance type. In any case he’ll make some of our walk up starts sweat for it.

Think he has got better in his skills but I sense a bit to go still. Look forward to seeing him in match sim at training to see what level he is at.

Worth repeating. With the surge in small forward pocket rockets across the league, we’re going to need some competitive small defenders to combat that arms race. Players with fast-feet and defensive tenacity who can match those players for movement and agility on the deck might be just as important as the more skilful ball-movers in a modern defensive setup. Will need a balance of both I think.

I still don’t know the clubs issue with Foley, i think he’s a guy that could slot straight in to an afl back flank and play well.

I think he probably deserved cat B listing last year even just to play in VFL side.
some say its about the development dollars…but lots of olympians would pay for their accomodation in the village if it meant they could play their sport.

Am sure just doing all the regular sessions would have been beneficial for him. someone who can rack up 35 disposals as a 18 year old in VFL must go alright.

He got toweled up by some gold coast sons player, might have been Lombard, but I guess Hayes got toweled up by top 10 draft pick too in Jed Walter.

look at the talent Hardwick has on offer. with 3 likely first rounders next year too.

16 top 20 draft picks

we also have 16, but not as many early picks
SUns 5 in the top 4 Swallow, Rowell, Anderson, Walter, Ainsworth
Dons 1 McGRath

I think he will benefit greatly from being on the list as he is a very determined

Those highlights look extremely exciting. What exactly is the knock on him? My only guess is his size and that he’s maybe quick"ish" without being lightning (his on-field pace there seems to be a mix of above average pace combined with a huge amount of dare, I wouldn’t be surprised if he tested slower than he looks).

His kicking looks perfectly tidy but not at the level of playing a proper playmaker role down back.

Size and disposal are the major knocks.
On the speed thing he is lightning tested through the roof in almost everything at the state combine

he tested fast.

Essendon NGA running defender Jayden Nguyen did his draft chances no harm with a 2.897 second 20m sprint in the state combine.

for reference suns small forward lombard 2.851 second 20m sprint

No love for Hayes then?
Or do you expect him to break into the senior side early?

Forgotten man.

I hope one of Reid / Hayes is in the senior side, but other one in VFL unless McKay is injured.

The way he sees ball and goes and gets it with acceleration into the contest is amazing to see. Then has the burst of speed to get through… amazing highlights.

I may have misheard, but it it sounded like he said Avondale Heights and Aberfeldie played a detrimental part in his development!
