#43 Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti - WALLA MACCA TIPPA - joining Tiwi Bombers

The tough call Bombers must make on Stringer…

It’s not a tough call, don’t play them unfit. Better yet get people to the club that can get them there.

It shouldn’t even be a debate.

Whilst I agree…
Tippa has come from a long way back.
Even watching him the last week he looks fitter than a month ago.
So the trajectory is right. It’s just whether he has enough fitness in time for round 1.

I don’t think Perkins is all that good.

What do the player watchers say?

How many of our players are fit enough for AFL footy round 1 2023?

He trained with West Coke.

I don’t think Tippa is fit enough for round 1.
I also don’t think the sub is the best choice for him.

I’d prefer getting his base up to speed through full VFL games then have him primed for Anzac Day.
I worry that a poor performance could really dent his confidence.
But I’m led to believe that the coaches and Tippa have been open and honest to each other so he know where he sits and what needs to be done. It isn’t the same measures as other players on the list.

Jake has had an injury interrupted pre-season, so he certainly is not ready and I think they’ve already ruled him out of round 1.

The injuries have been what has set certain players back. Even Weideman didn’t ramp his training up until early Feb.
Hind was in recover between Xmas break and mid Feb.
Guelfi got injured just after the Bendigo camp. He’s only just now gotten back to where he was before the injury.
Hobbs was just before the Bendigo camp and he’s now back in full training (at least from the little snippets I’ve caught).

What do you base this conclusion on?

How about can’t run 400m at 3/4 speed

How about he’s not training for the 400m at the next Olympic Games? He’s actually a footballer.

I think he’ll play and hope he plays well.

running around for 2 weeks doesn’t suddenly build up enough fitness for when you could barely run out a half of football in the last practice match.

It’s probably more to do with the performance side of things rather than fitness actually.
The two practise games he had great moments, but I didn’t notice him getting up the ground the way he did during training when I watched him.
Davey is roaming his way up the great far easier and matching his practise output.

Having said all that…
I have never noticed him with hands on knees struggling for breath. But I’m not sure if he’s pushing himself to the limit or just trying to time/tune his fitness at times.
I wish I watched him a few years back so I could gauge what he was like back then for comparison.

I think he’ll be selected though.
I’ll probably try and pop down to VFL on Saturday and see how some of the others go.

He’ll be selected. No doubt.

Didn’t realise you didn’t need to be fit to play AFL football and all that running, sprinting is actually a waste of time. You just need to be able to play football :joy:

The physical requirements of a footballer are pretty substantial. I’m sure he can run a lap of the oval at 3/4 speed, but if he can’t then that is unacceptable.

Walla’s running is good enough for him to play both practice matches and to play just as many minutes as the other two small forwards in Menzie and Davey. Now you may still think he’s not fit to play an AFL home and away game but I suspect you’ll be proven wrong on Friday or Saturday (whenever team is finalised).

He did absolutely SFA in both of the practice matches.

Yeah I reckon he is playing too. I’m unsure if it is the right decision, we don’t have enough information tbh.

He was awful in the practice matches. He isn’t fit.
