I was in level 4 yesterday but all you could hear was ‘Tippa…Tippa…’ when he came on. ‘Twas glorious! When he kicked it…well…
It still gets me emotional, and I wasn’t even there.
It was a moment the club needed after the shitstorm that was the off season. It was an “ohh, this is why we support Essendon” moment.
I expect him to play VFL in the next couple of weeks and that’s okay.
I was sceptical, but it was so worth playing him as the sub. Luckily he came on when the game was over, and we could get a short burst from him. 4 disposals, 3 score involvements.
It gave us one of the more special moments in football. Footy needs moments like that, and people like Walla.
Scott showing that he has a fine sense of the dramatic and the romantic. Playing Tippa was the cherry on top of the icing of the cake.
Can someone post the paywall article in the age about walla please?
I think it has already been posted if you scroll back
Interesting to see what they do with him next week. Can’t keep playing him for 1 quarter every week, so he either starts or plays VFL.
Sure they can. They just up training loads to compensate for a lack of match time. I agree it wouldn’t be the optimal way to do it, but there are a number of players who’ve spent multiple consecutive weeks as sub.
He still has all the touch and skill. He just needs fitness now.
Match fitness is different to training fitness.
I’m starting to like this bloke
It was bl00dy unreal to be there at the ground and see Tippa come on for a cameo late in the game on Sunday. I’m sure it will spur him on and it gave something for the crowd to celebrate.
But just in case anyone was deluded enough to think he was ready to play a full game at AFL intensity, it appears as though he couldn’t even get through 25 minutes without his body battling! Quad soreness apparently.
I hope from here that we really take the slow build approach with him. Take care of his current issue and then give him 3 or 4 games in the VFL at least before reintegrating him back into the AFL side.
P.S. Part of me wonders whether this press release flagging his quad soreness has been released partly due to messaging to fans around expectations over the next few weeks.
Watching him live he was definitely gassed after about 10-15 minutes. Long way to go fitness wise but step in the right direction
Club says today he pulled up sore with quad soreness.
Which is not surprising that he’s sore after missing so much high level footy.
At training today he just did laps.
I thought the last thirty seconds or so he did a great unrewarded defensive run up the ground, and then got back into the forward line to be a part of another potential goal, but the siren beat us.
So I think it’s a little harsh to say he was gassed.
He was breathing heavy running onto the ground. We should give him 4-6 weeks in the VFL now to get up to speed.
big risk using the sub like this if we have an injury in the first quarter, obviously there are positives to outweigh that but if we do the same with Stringer and he’s not fully ready for 1/2+ of a match we might be in some strife
lol the last quarter of that game was not high levek footy. the suns and saints pre season games were at a higher intensity than Sundays last quarter, both in which he played more footy
i think its a very real possibility they are just managing him getting more fitness through the VFL this way, which HD referred to
Get him in ripping condition for Dreamtime
