Love this pick! Had him in my options for last night, so to see us land him today has me pretty stoked.

X-factor mid sized forward. Powerful, aggressive - just needs to build production consistency.

I’m starting to really like this draft. Lots of players putting up some good performances in a variety of roles.

If I could pick the brains of two of our resident draft experts about a few players - @noobermensch and @THE_DON1, what are your thoughts on Hynes of the Stingrays, Jacques from the Falcons and Day-Wicks out of Bendigo.

They seem to be having increasingly good performances - and in Day-Wicks’ case, has built back from early season injury.

What style of player do you see them as (all different I know) and where do you see their current draft ranges.

No urgency, just curious as to your thoughts when you have a moment to spare.

I havent made videos on any of them yet and I tend to have a better idea of a kid once I’ve done that.

I know Day-Wicks decently well having seen a fair bit of him last season. He’s been playing as one of those medium sized hybrid mid/forwards that each talent league team has a couple of these days. He hits the scoreboard and is pretty powerful. He’s had a quiet start to the season, I suspect he’s been injured? Not fully across that though.

edit: draft range wise all three are super difficult to peg for a variety of reasons. Day-Wicks was definitely a top 20 candidates before the season, but he hasnt played enough yet to get a feel for how he’s developed from last year. The other two are later/deeper prospects, but they’ve both started the season really well so who knows? I generally dont like making a call on draft ranges until after the champs.

Archer Day Wicks sounds interesting. Powerful half forward / mid type. I guess is he a poor man’s Sam Lalor? Is he maybe a good option later in the draft?

I still think Archer Day-Wicks could be a handy pick up later in the draft. Has a little bit of Jamie Elliot about him.
Good over head mark, can play up the ground as a link up guy, beats his man through reading the play well.

Bendigo Pioneers/Vic Country – FWD, 186cm

Day-Wicks has as much x-factor as anyone in this draft class and has a lot of room for growth, best known for his creative forward half movements to hit the scoreboard from stoppage at ground level or his marking ability which makes him excitingly unpredictable.

Day-Wicks - I hope someone takes a chance on him as he does seem to have bags of untapped talent but he’s also very risky. Just went completely missing for much of the season after he came in with a pretty big reputation. I suppose I’d be okay with us looking at him, but more for a rookie spot I think.

For that I’d be looking at the guys that entered the season with a big reputation but didn’t produce for one reason or another. I’ve mentioned a couple already in Archer Day-Wicks and Patrick Retschko. Both will be super late pick ups due to relatively underwhelming performances this season, but both have the physical traits and skill set to be good AFL players if they figure things out. Good size, athleticism, balls skills.

One of my pet players is Jonty Faull. He was clearly the best key forward prospect entering the year, and just couldn’t get going due to a persistent back injury. The injury is a risk as we know, we’ve seen Gumby/Reid/Cox struggle with similar issues… but if he can overcome it he could be the steal of the draft.

Surely better off to pay out final year of contract and pick up a rookie on very little coin. Doesn’t make much sense. He is physically cooked!

Done well after facing some physical challenges in recent years.
Hopefully that translates into more determination, upside to his game, taking his opportunities etc. and the kid gets a good run at it at AFL level.
