#45 Alec Waterman - thighning off

His only short coming appears to be the one thing that Waterman does best…Set shots for goal!

I had a look at the stats for that match. An odd distribution of disposals to say the least lol.

Carlisle as a first year player taking 12 marks was pretty promising at the time too.

Staggering when you think of it haha

Recruit the rising star, move the heavy-set half back flanker into the forward line, and presto! Finals.

I was going to add - imagine being at that game - pondering the state of the the club and list - ‘geez it’s been six years since we played finals - but a few signs of the future tonight I suppose - bring on the next decade I say, I’ve got a good feeling about the 2010’s…’

watched Dews highlights of 2008 grand final
his size and strength over the ball plus his goal nous of knowing where the goals were was great.
If Waterman can just kick his 2 goals each week I will be happy. love having strong boys in the forwardline that wont be pushed out of a contest and have a eye for the goals.

hf: Smith Jones Stringer
f: Waterman Hooker Tippa

Id be inclined to leave Wright in the ruck as current forwardline seems to be clicking.

I remember being at that game and it did not feel like that at all.

I remember a big argument in the stands between Essendon fans. One bloke was mouthing off at Knights as he went down to the ground. Another fan then mouthed off at him, yelling stuff like get out of here, we don’t need supporters like you.

Essendon was ■■■■■■ in 2010. And 2012-2015. And 2018. And 2019 and 2020. Have we finally turned the corner or just having another 2011?

Glandular fever followed by Chronic Fatigue. Takes a lot of getting over. There is a lot of upside to Waterman he’s definitely worth any perceived fitness health risk. Someone who tread a similar path was Alistair Lynch took him about 3 years to overcome chronic fatigue. Played till he was 36 and ended up kicking 600+ goals. Waterman is fast becoming one of my favourite players.

I remember Leroy having a few games at the end of that year when he had mid to high 20 disposal games, playing like a man possessed, got a few clearances, was in everything. He was OOC at the end of the year I think.

My partner had CFS after recurring illness. Destructive. Was aware Lynch had it - I recall footage of him lying in ice baths and Leigh Matthews supportive approach. Respect.

Chronic fatigue seems to hit elite athletes the hardest. I wonder if the high intensity training makes them more vulnerable.

Yep - there was a night game I think against the Dogs that year when he had the bleached hair and he legit played out of his skin as a ball-winning midfielder - had 30 odd disposals and was shimmying through congestion like Scott Pendlebury - was a glimpse of an alternate dimension where he reached his football potential.

I remember that - VIVIDLY!

I just remember him actually having a red hot crack in close - grabbing the ball and thumping it on the boot to get the clearance several times.

Yep. Myers as well. Looked a gun.

I remember screaming FIRST INSTINCT at Leroy.

When he turned off his worrying brain he could be lethal.
