#45 Anthony “Munny” Munkara

Something nefarious. That raises a red flag to me alongside the fact she cannot remember which Asian supermarket she supposedly bought the mushrooms from. A few other reasons also.

Imagine a dinner party after which 4 people are fighting for their lives, and you’ve also spent time in hospital. Then when you get home from hospital the next day, you decide to feed the leftovers to your kids?

I can tell you from work experience that there absolutely is, and that a whole family got extremely sick and at least one person died, might have been two.

Needs its own thread, but yes. They are absolutely everywhere.

Yes. They’re everywhere to be picked. I meant floating around asian grocery stores as food.

Don’t pick field mushrooms. In Victoria and maybe elsewhere there are death cap mushrooms that look almost identical to table mushrooms.

People die from it every year or two.

Is there a mushroom thread where we can talk about this crazy lady and Mario together?

But no, I’m confident they won’t be in Asian supermarkets and they especially won’t be dried.

Absolutely take Benny’s comments above seriously though. Unless you know what you’re doing, don’t forage.

Surely those costs are factored in when you make the initial call. You know that there’s a development requirement. And that has a cost.

Is this the old “Essendon doesn’t like spending money” thing again? We really have been far far behind on the Cat B when co pared with other clubs. Why would that be?

Sure and the equation worked 12 months ago, now with a years worth of day and experience working him, the equation doesn’t work anymore.

He’s a long term talent but we only committed 12 months to him. Like any contract you assess at the end whether to renew.

We are literally paying for James Stewart to play for another club next year and yet we won’t spend a few bucks on trying to help a Cat B rookie on minimum chips fit in and hopefully become a decent player?
Absolute madness IMO
Minimum risk for perhaps a high reward and if it doesn’t pan out we haven’t lost much

As my mate @brarnzy almost said, if Hepp was told to look for another club so there’s one HBF for a younger player, then I would still hate this decision re Munny, but I would be more accepting of it as consistent with Scott getting tough.

Munny is a long long way off AFL and is barely holding his place at VFL level. It’s understandable that after 12 months in the VFL the decision is he’s not AFL material. But there are other players to move on so get on with that.

I’m wondering whether Tex is seen as the high talent long term investment project player - and maybe Jayden Davey as well - and Munny is seen as one project/one extra list spot too many??

Munny was Cat B - outside the list.

unless we are going to take on 2 cat B players this year no issue.
(note mcBride delisted too) And arguable IMO Munkara showed more in VFL this year than mcBride did over last 4 years.

Part of lifting AFL standards is having selection pressure, if they believe he won’t make it at all as a prospect (12 months of data is a decent chunk any way you look at it) then there might be the belief another cat B guy can contribute more - maybe we already have someone in mind

In the past Blitz has been critical because we’ve held on too long to some guys, now we’re going too soon on a guy that can barely play at the lower level

Perhaps they don’t believe that he has the work ethic to make it at AFL level. I have no issue with the club wanting to set particular standards, as long as they are being set across the board.

It seems like they didn’t plan it out well 12 months ago then if all of a sudden the cost seems too much. Did they pay lip service to the “this is a development program” then not assign ongoing budget?

I would recognise you anywhere. Hawaiian shirt, suitcase with a million stickers on it, cocktail with little umbrella in hand and zinc creme on your nose.

Or he simply wasn’t good enough. It’s not that hard to get your head around, we tried it didn’t work. Doesn’t mean it was the wrong decision 12 months ago.
