Competed hard but ultimately got beaten by the dual ruck setup. The free kicks against were frustrating though.
Draper is arguably the only one we should have fought hard to keep.
Keeping Merrett and Ridley looks dumber by the second.
We lost a his talents as well as his spirit and soul
Blakiston was pretty good tonight. ā¦youād be better off slamming the witches hats he was trying to tap the ball to!
I think his loss is being underestimated as well.
And the way club handled it was amateur hour.
I can see both sides but his absence means the midfield group canāt function and are rendered incapacitated. Hes also probably our best key forward last year when he played. He was physical, aggressive and took marks forward and kicked goals. We miss him greatly on field and his spirit
Cant miss someone perennially injured.
Next these comedians will tell you we just need Ridley to play a full season for some defensive cohesion
We heard you the first 100 times you posted this.
Can you explain what you mean by this?
Draper played 5 games. 3 of those were wins. He was average against Port, fantastic against Melbourne and solid against West Coast until his injury. The other 3 wins he played no part in.
But heās the hEArT and sOuL of our club
was very good again
Should have kept him watch him play a blinder for Brisbane on the week end.
farking who cares how much it would have cost to keep him if it was good enough for Brisbane then itās good enough for us. I trust them over our clubs decision makers
At the moment what he gives us around the ground is less that what we are losing in the ruck. First quarter I thought Iād gotten it all wrong and Blakiston was our ruck answer, three quarters later Iām hoping Bryan is back soon.
Good at centre square ruck contests where heās got separation and can run and jump. Not so good at around the ground ruckwork where big boys like Meek and Reeves can grapple and push him out the way.
Brad Scott āwe like to play two rucksā
Team selectionā¦ā¦. āIāve got an idea, why donāt we play three key forwards and a single ruckman against two rucksā.
Blakiston isnāt a quality ruckman. He doesnāt give the midfield first use. He was soundly beaten against the Saints and now the Hawks. That makes the midfields contest work much harder.
He was probably in our best 4-5 players until he got injured. He was our only genuine physical presence forward, probably our best contested mark, was on track to kick 20 goals+ for the year, was the spirit of the side and players walked talker around him. He had matured enormously and was an asset.
Blakiston canāt take contested marks, canāt provide a forward presence, isnāt equipped physically. Hes no Draper.
Draper is dead to us. No coming back, move on.
