#5 Devon Smith

A few said once his mate Stringer was back he’d improve. was a good game.

If true then yeah not sure I like that. He should be giving 100% all the time

Made a big difference down back. Have our backline a hard edge which they have lacked

Clearly he needed the break

Must have just been physically gassed

Much better game.

Although multiple poor fwd entries for us when in space

Devon Smith had 1 good season, won the B&F and for some that is a pass for life.

Facts are he was never good enough to use pick 11 on and we were 100% in the knowledge that he would miss at least 1 year due to a degenerative knee issue.

We’re getting what we paid for without getting what we paid for. Jury still out on Dev for mine.

We didn’t just trade him for pick 11 mate. We got a second rounder back which we used as part of the Stringer deal.

Absolutely worth it.

Shocking game.

We got the 2nd round pick back when trading out pick 11… kinda pertinent information when evaluating Dev… The deal was fair, We ended up getting Stringer And Smith for effectivly our first 2 picks in that draft. You’d take that every time, every club would.

Permanent small defender for mine

Pick 11 was used on Aiden Bonar who GWS ended up trading for a future 3rd rounder. We also received 2 second round picks which we used to secure Stringer and Mosquito. Would you trade Smith, Stringer and Mosquito for Bonar?

It looked like he was playing that skinny side wing position which is probably the only role he is suited to as a midfielder.

His best two games this year imo have been in that position, the only issue I have with him in that role is he isn’t very damaging with the ball through the middle, especially when you have guys like Merrett and Shiel feeding him the ball.

Im keen to see him down there again

2017 Trade for Devon Smith
Essendon Smith (39 games) + #24 (#25 - Balta - 21 games) + #2018R2 (GWS) (#38 - Mosquito - 0 games) 164 XG
GWS #11 (Bonar - 11 games) + #2018R3 (Essendon) (-) 110 XG

so could have been, Smith, Balta, Mosquito for a Bonar and a third rounder giants used for magical fairy dust points for Kieran Briggs…

was perfect draft to trade out of given not many stars from that crop.

Essendon Stringer (43 games) 107 XG
Western Bulldogs #25 (Balta - 21 games) + #30 (De Koning - 4 games) 92 XG

Doggies potentially fluffed the schache deal, give could have got Balta.

2017 Trade for Josh Schache
Brisbane #25 (Balta - 21 games) + #40 (#41 - Wooller - 0 games) 79 XG
Western Bulldogs Schache (29 games)

I think it is embarrassing that Hurley was gifted the captaincy but this bloke getting it just takes the cake.

2018 Smith, sure I would understand.

This bloke? Abysmal.

Mortifying the lack of leadership across all facets of the club and unsurprising, we have zero leaders on field as well.

He is an embarrassment. Should retire.

Wtf was that handball

Which one? There are a few to choose from

He’s a half forward. He should never be played behind the ball. His decision making is just not good enough. Up forward where he doesn’t have to think, just do, is where he belongs.
