#5 Elijah Tsatas (Part 2)

BS was GM of Football FFS.

I’d put significant money on him having barely watched more than 2 hours of U18 footy all year.

I don’t think there are many people that thought our recruiting was great, prior to Rosa.

How much midfield time has Perkins, Shiel & Hobbs had this year?

I’d hope he did watch at least some given it was directly under his remit.

Being the boss of something isn’t the same as being a recruiter though. It’s about running the department, managing resources, providing guidance to staff etc and so forth.

Sure. I certainly don’t think he would have known the ins and outs of the draft crop.

But I suspect he probably did watch a bunch of development league football across his time in the role.

He might have. But then did he watch all the games his umpiring team worked to see how they went? Did he watch the junior umpiring group to see how they worked and how they are developing?

Or did he manage the people who did that work?

So between watching every AFL game would you also expect them to watch much state footy or Gaelic footy (or any other talent pathway) too.

There’s people who’s actual job it is to run the talent pathways and report to the GM how they’re operating.

The GM is not actually assessing the talent themselves.

Minimal at best and all of them while playing other roles

And what was the conclusion around why Tsatas didn’t play VFL?

Was speculating, like many others here, so how would I actually know?

You mean other than his role at the AFL and EFC? Both seem to be jobs for the boys.

Can you name a more qualified GM of Football?

As much as we might wish we had’ve gone with an untried coach, there weren’t too many more likely candidates for us after Barham committed to rolling Rutten and Clarkson told us to ■■■■ off.

We were always going the experienced path and sorry Hird fanboys but the Messiah was never going to happen.

WD has a very good track record when it comes to in the know information. Doesn’t get much wrong

Not well, none of them would be best 22 at a Top 8 club, on 2025 form.

That wasn’t the initial point though, was it?

You were suggesting those 3 were taking minutes away from Tsatas. I merely countered that they don’t play many mid minutes and when they do it’s only after they played significant minutes elsewhere. Unless Tsatas can improve his versatility then he’s got to fight for any of Caldwell, Durham and Setterfield (and now Parish) minutes.

I’d be stoked if he took Hobbs’ role but unfortunately Tsatas has shown even less forward craft than Hobbs (and that’s saying a lot) with even less ability to play a defensive role (again pretty hard to do considering how ■■■■ Hobbs has been at it).

Thought Brad was actually going to be asked about Tsatas when talking about the midfield mix, but someone jumped over the top of cal
