I have this feeling that the penny is starting to drop for Elijah. Last few weeks Iāve seen him be far more engaged in tackling and winning ground ball away from stoppage. I think he is also covering the ground well. He seems to finally be getting there; which will be just in time for us to delist or trade him to another club!

Itās staggering that people canāt see that he is improving all all the areas that people say he needs to work on. Yet they refuse to give him credit

Has been pushing back harder into defence aswell which is something that canāt be measured without the gps data

Its actually a bit farking sad that he cant kick well, because if he was a good kick you would absolutely live with the below average defensive stuff.
If he were a good kick heād be the second or third best player in his draft year. Thats how good his clearance and ball winning ability is.
I do still hope theres a world where he re signs and somehow becomes an above average kicker. Because he is only 21 and will definitely still improve.
His determination to improve is admirable.

In the first few games and the last few games heās been using his pace a lot more as well. For some reason it went missing through the middle of the year.
I really think we should try and keep him but I completely understand him wanting out.

I think weāve probably made a stand as a club on defensive stuff - doesnāt matter how well youāre peforming, if youāre not doing the basic defensive stuff then youāll be playing VFL. You just have to look at Parish and the recent treatment with Huss.
I think its ā ā ā ā ā ā ā great. Now Iām not saying Tsatas is the worst at it, but for a young player, he must be building the right foundations first.
Who knows, maybe he does enough in the last few weeks defensively to earn that contract.

This will never happen. Thereās fundamental motor issues going on here. Jobe Watson is really an exception and not the norm. Jobe worked incredibly hard to fix it, plus he also had the intelligence to really change. 9/10 fixing kicking by a significant amount is just not going to happen.
Wish the club put some emphasis of getting hands on the ball instead of just chasing the opposition when they have it. Tsatas has been standing on that business all year, whilst guys have been in our midfield all year getting 15 touches per game.

Watched every Tsatas game for 2-3 years. Itās been a slow burn with certain aspects of his game.
This last 3-4 weeks has been an immediate signficant step forward in his own belief and focus areas. Kid is running hard, hunting tackles, and bursting away from stoppage every opportunity. Looks hungry for goals.
Not sure where this confidence has been. But I donāt care, Iām happy for him.

I agree. I have this horrible feeling weāve actually done a good job with him but because it came with a lot of torment for the lad he will seek a new club as a result.

Itās easy to forget that heās just 21 too. He is improving, as you do when youāre 21. Heās been judged around here by some like heās a 26 year old smack in the middle of his prime and a finished product.
We even have people here saying theyād like to keep Setterfield over him.

To be honest, mid way through this year I couldnāt see him playing AFL. I didnāt think he was working anywhere near hard enough on the ground to be able to get a consistent run at it. Maybe Brad getting the sack has lifted the shackles off him a bit and freed his mind but I think I noticed against GWS (VFL) a change in his game and heās been very good each week thereafter. I think his last 2 weeks have been his best as far as covering the ground, repeat efforts, tackling; all the stuff that he has been criticised for lacking. Itās quite a turnaround and he deserves a bit of recognition for it.

I had hope for him from the AFL games he played this year. To me, he didnāt look out of place. He was getting 60% game time and still clocking 20 possessions with ease and his kicking looked much improved (other than the Melbourne game, where lets be honest, conditions werenāt great).
Yes, his tackling and defensive side was weak, but I wasnāt too concerned about that. Itās a lot easier to learn those things than it is to learn to get your hands on the ball with ease.
In the VFL he has been playing decently and running well for a while imo, but he was never given a chance to show it in the AFL due to the ā centre bounce or on the pineā policy they had with him.
But itās great to see that his defensive side is starting to get there. Heās still got a lot of work to do in that deparment, but heās clearly up for the challenge.

Ideally another chance to show his wares at the top level, theyāll be thinking about at least trying to win a VFL final though

Tsatas should have been played more in my opinion, especially this year and I think the tick under 4 tackles heās averaged in the VFL this year is fine for an offensive inside mid. Iād much rather see him play for the next month than Setterfield, who Iām still kind of annoyed got put back on the list in the first place.
But also, while itās neat he had 6 tackles this week, he had 1 last week, and a tick under 4 a game is in fact the lowest heās averaged in the VFL. Doesnāt mean his defensive work overall hasnāt improved, but if youāve noticed him tackling more in the second half of this season, thatās a reflection of the watcher, not the player.
