50 Worst Essendon Losses since 2000 (countdown)

I’m pretty sure that one will be in the top 5.

I’d probably have this one a bit lower as I tend to mark down end of season losses with nothing to play for unless they’re really abject, e.g. GWS in 2023.

I would agree.

The loss from the 2023 season that absolutely stung me was the 45-122 loss against the Cats in round 18.

Coming into that match, we were 5th and Cats were 8th. We were about to finally turn a corner and stand up to the team that had bullied us for years? Of course we weren’t. 47 to 1 at quarter time. Cats fans laughing at us in the stands.

It was the moment I realised we were still the same flakey Essington we always were.

Yeah, I was thinking it’s probably a little low as I was posting it. Funny how there was no coming back for Rutten after this game, but we managed to top this with a new coach who’s now been given at least 1 more year of time to work with.

Also, the game that broke Herbatron:

Not much to say about this one.

The dogs are the biggest flat track bullies of all time and Essendon are the caliber of team who gets demolished by flat track bullies.

I haven’t seen a single second of this game. I was at the A-League Semi final and stopped checking the scores after the 15 min mark of the 1st qtr

The gameplan that day of letting Bailey Dale do whatever the ■■■■ he wanted probably wasn’t the best one in hindsight.

Those last 7 weeks of ‘23 were an absolute nightmare. Even the two wins we had were by 1 point against the Eagles, and 9 points against North, and we should have lost both of them.

And that GWS game has to be a contender for number 1 on this list.

The top 2 has to be that one and the 21 goals in a row game against Bulldogs

The fact there’s a Bulldogs loss worse than that one coming up speaks volumes.

Never have I felt so ashamed after a win than walking out of Marvel stadium that day.

Perhaps the next challenge is the worst 50 wins since 2000. There’ve been more than a few.

That one should be top 5 at minimum. I was unfortunate enough to be present for that one but not the one from this year.

Surely someone has done a 50 best wins type thread. I know it’s been a pretty lean quarter of a century but there have been a few pretty good ones.

This game was so disastrous and I think fairly the end of Rutten.

But if you look at the 22, it’s really not much different to what we were rolling out late 2024. No wonder that season also petered out into nothingness.
