50 Worst Essendon Losses since 2000 (countdown)

I watched this game with a Pies fan and he was adamant that Essendon was the only team Collingwood could have beaten that night, and I agree with him. The standard was that bad.

If Collingwood cared, they could’ve broke records that night

I was with the grog squad that night.

We were all laughing. I mean it was so awful that we all just started laughing.

It was almost the very first contest of the game, I think.

I went to this game with @Ivan, who absolutly lost his sh*t over a half-assed, one-arm tackle attempt by McGrath in the first quarter. Like, he really got fired up about it

We were in the bar by quarter time.

Fair, it was practically a nothing game. I placed it quite high given that the team had already embarrassed us the week prior against GWS, and we’d brought in a coach who was meant to establish standards and not let these kinds of uncompetitive performances happen, let alone in consecutive weeks.

WE actually ended up having a cracking evening that night so i wouldn’t really consider having that game on this list, also we barely watched it and outside of that mcgrath tackle attempt i remember nothing of it.

the worst game of the last 25 year for mine is easily is the last Sheedy/Hird game at the G vs the tigers.

2nd is probably the 2014 elimination

3rd would be a mid season game v port at marvel, maybe 2010. for reasons i can’t now quite recall it made be irrationally angry for weeks on end. Found some highlights, threw away 4 goal lead half way through the third when we were well on top. magnificent

We were pathetic that night. Richmond were trash that year and they outplayed us for the majority of the night. I reckon the crowd was about 70% bomber fans too

A lot of bomber players had downed tools by then under sheedy. But the lack of fight they showed for Hird was embarrasing

What should have been an enjoyable nights celebration as a bombers fan turned into a nightmare. As has so many milestone games/ big games have since then

That was the night where the camera went to Draper who was laughing it up in the stands as we were getting slaughtered. Lost all respect for him that night

Pretty sure this was the week after GWS had obliterated us. We were so timid from the start of the game. Remember McGrath being a few inches behind a pies player and instead of burying him in a tackle, he just lightly touched him. The pies player ran around him with ease and they goaled.

Had a go at predicting the top 10 in order

  1. 2012 R10 Melbourne 58-52 Essendon
  2. 2019 Western Bulldogs 137-33 Essendon
  3. 2023 R23 GWS-162-36 Essendon
  4. 2015 R20 Adelaide 171-59 Essendon
  5. 2015 R14 St Kilda 162-52 Essendon
  6. 2024 R23 Gold Coast 87-86 Essendon
  7. 2013 R19 Collingwood 133-54 Essendon
  8. 2017 EF Sydney 121-56 Essendon
  9. 2023 R24 Collingwood 101-31 Essendon

I dont think we’d be leaving out the 01 GF. I cannot bring myself to watch a second of that game.

One of the hardest to watch but left it off as it felt pretty accurate of where we were at.

Great first half of footy from an Essendon perspective. Top-notch contest until the third term.

I went to the game, only GF I’ve ever been to. My dad got free tickets, we had a nice breakfast on Bridge Road and it was a beautiful day (I went in shorts and a t-shirt). When Lucas bombed a long goal late in the second we were on a roll, about 20 points ahead and looking good. Brisbane pinched one back just before half-time and it changed the momentum. We got overrun in the second-half, and the warm weather that seemed so nice earlier in the day gave Brisbane a big advantage.

A few years later, I did watch a replay of the game. The thing that struck me, and Brisbane were a great team, is that they didn’t play that well. We were just very poor. Of the 22, I reckon only six or seven of our blokes would’ve got a pass mark. And playing a bunch of half-fit players, in that weather, really backfired.

I went to two games in 2015. Guess which ones.

That’s not what #1 draft picks should used for.

But apparently is enough to be a captain of EFC these days.
