Joe kick no goals until he goes to kicking school.

JOE DAN -->> LOVE YOU LONG TIME.

He'll kick 8 this week.

Nah, if he get's to 7, Carlton will move their 2 man spine on to Joe.

Please kick a few goals this week Joe. Surely you can kick a footy straight!

Give the boy some resin and he’ll kick ten.

Is the resin ASADA approved

He'll kick 1 x goal most games (15)

And kick a couple on a few (say 3 lots of 2 (6)

And 1 x bag (5)

and some really solid contributions (A few 3 goal games)

So thet ends up being 36.

Yep, 36.

Does he kick the 5 in the Grand Final?

Set shot kicking for goal needs to become a routine that can be replicated over and over and over repeatedly. Joes routine appears to be …walk in a few steps whilst spinning the ball in the hand, take a few stutter steps, then kick for goal. It doesn’t exactly fill one with confidence that the result will be what is required.

Annoys me when players spin the ball in their run-up.  Even Jobe.

You're trying to hit the ball at a certain point, how about you ensure you get friggin' step one right?

I'm with you there Wim.

Yeah, nah.

Cricket bowlers do it, left hand for 14 steps of their run up then bring both hands up, swap it to right, delivery stride & bowl.

If it's something you've always done, then you get used to it & it's a non issue.

How long do they have the ball in their hands before a normal kick? Half a second, maybe 2 at most?

I totally agree, it drives me nuts seeing Jobe spinning the ball as he walks in, but it must work for him, dont know what his goal/point stats are but I think he's fairly accurate.

Middle fingers down the seams, thumbs toward the laces, how do you get that if you spin it on the way in?

Whoever taught Jobe to kick a football must have been some sort of hack.

Goalkicking is like putting. Its a mental thing more than physical, IMO. Joe will be right. Hell, if Lindsay Thomas can turn it around, anyone can.

It’s a lot easier for a bowler to change hands during the run up and get it right. The ball is basically a sphere and the fingers feel the seam when passed from one hand to the other so you can be pretty sure it will be in the same location in regards to seam position each delivery. Spinning the football before a kick is a different proposition altogether. Due to the shape of the ball you only have to be slightly out and you’ll get a different drop and therefore the connection with the boot has a greater chance to be different from one kick to another.

Pity Joe didn't grow up in a footy family.

With most people's run-ups, kicking or bowling - just is. And if it's working (or at least not making things worse), let it go.

Remember when the Hawks got Dunstall to help Buddy with his kicking, and he got him running in dead straight and (generally) kicking about 20º right of where he wanted it?
